The Cord Trap

You know those big holes you find in some desks? They’re supposed to help keep all cables in one place but things still end up kinda messy. The Cord Trap is just a coupling you snap into the hole. The notches help keep cables separate and hopefully from tangling up.

I really do not think it would matter…
Duct tape works best =-)

Texan Democrat, I must respectfully disagree with you. I love duct tape for all kinds of stuff, but duct tape leaves your desk looking really nasty if you ever need to move cables.

I think this product is briliant and I would buy it.

Send it to Doug Mockett- they’ll license this thing in a second. They are the largest maker of desk grommets in the US

Smart solution to an obscure but OBNOXIOUS problem. Big thumbs up.

This concept has been around for ages. Please look at closet-masters.com/wire management/cable grommets - the rectangular versions. Take out the grommet cap and flip it over to get the cable slots. I first saw this on a desk I used in Europe almost 30 years ago.

Wow that would’ve been really helpful to have.

This is definitely one of those “dah, (smacking myself in the forehead), why didn’t I think of that” inventions. Simple but brilliant!

Brilliant idea! Hope that they have patented it! Could make them a fortune!

To the designer: have a look at mockett.com. This is exactly their kind of thing, and they make a lot of products from submitted designs.

That’s great!

I hate when I go to unplug my speakers, etc, and the cord falls down to the floor behind my desk — then I have to crawl underneath to try to toss the cord back through the hole hoping against hope that it will stay there as I crawl out and pull it from the top. I think it’s a common problem no one really talks about, and this is a marvelously simple design that could easily be executed in every office, home and school.

Absolutely brilliant design. One thing I always hate is when I’m under my desk bringing a wire up, and I can’t shove enough wire onto the desk for it to hold in place. Then, by the time I’m standing in front of the desk, its fallen back down.

My current desk doesn’t have a hole for wires (It’s pulled out half an inch from the wall), but if it did, I would buy one of these.
