Put A Smile On Your Toast
Does your toast smile at you in the morning or is it a grumpy old man? Quirky as it may sound, I think small nuances (or gimmicks) like this can really make a difference in your day. Bring out your shiny smile for the Smile Cooking Toaster! Think hair straightening iron for a moment, similar to that clasp design is this appliance. Difference lies in the electric-heating nano-membrane and different smiley faces you can use to singe on the bread. The transparent style really adds to the elegance and the timer display (with heating controls) makes sure you don’t ever burn your toasts! Smile your morning blues away.

Glass is a very poor heat conductor, this device it’s very inefficient and wastes a lot of energy. But hey it’s still cool
Gary says
Not necessarily, they mentioned an “electric-heating nano-membrane”, which I assume is coated on the glass on the insides. As you pointed out, by using glass as a conductor, it would waste a lot of energy, not to mention a bit dangerous because it would hold the high heats longer than metal. But, I will give the designers the benefit of the doubt and say that they’re not scientifically/engineering-ly inept.

Finally, one of the holy grails of toaster design has been solved thanks to the”Electric heating Nano-membrane”.
I don’t know if this tech exists but it had better work by generating a radiant heat. In that I mean a burning source. I have been involved in prototyping a number of attempts to solve this problem and if you don’t have radiant heat all you do is bake/cook the bread. This gives great melba toast but not good toast.
This is a great IDEA but you have to solve the tech before worrying about the looks of a product.
Electro heating Nano-membrane aside I am more impressed with the way the power cord disappears into nothingness when it enters the glass sheet.
CAD and a good rendering package can make anything look like it already exists but sadly if you want a product to truly exist you have to think a bit deeper.

The power cord doesn’t dissapear, it goes behind the clock display into the metal rod that makes the hinge

Really cool. Nice job….just the smile idea is worth a lot. I Hope you can patent this…

Very nice. I think it would be cool if you could add the smiles to something such as an Eggo waffle.

i love it. make it work and it would sell. Kids would love watching their toast.

this creates many more problems than it answers. If it indeed answers any problems at all. It also looks less like a smiley face and more like a piece of bread with a bad bikini-tan.

A good toaster delivers a piece of toast that is evenly cooked all over. This is not a good toaster.

Beautiful yet functional. The Nano glass heater is just awesome, and makes perfect toast every time. I hope this is easy to clean too.

So you can sell it for tens of thousands of dollars on eBay? Probably not going to happen.

as a product design student, I have to agree. pretty renderings are a dime a dozen. but then again, student projects are the only chance you get to come up with ridiculous concepts that would never work. but this one isn’t very impressive.

Toasters aren’t usually grounded

I thnk it’s because it’s an asian plug. It’s not 100% sure it’s ground

You can do the same thing by putting drops of milk on the bread in just about any pattern you like before you toast it and save yourself some money.

lol hellokitty already makes a toaster that burns designs on the bread (and it’s real unlike this one): http://www.target.com/s?keywords=hello_kitty_toaster&LNM=Hello%20kitty%20toaster&CPNG=appliances&AFID=google&LID=3p253609&adgroup=toasters&MT=broad&KID=5bb82b7d-d68b-c169-e2e1-00003b63373f&ref=tgt_adv_XS000000

This product can be made as prototype to visualization of product design, but this practically not possible ur thinking, i means u rendered here, to make it happen lot engineering stuff to be consider.

This is the coolest kitchen appliance I’ve seen. I’m not sure I would worry about the efficiency of an object that runs two minutes a day at most as some of the other posters pointed out. Is this only available in Japan? Why do they get all the cool stuff?
