This is probably the sexiest nut cracker I have ever seen, no pun intended. The minimalist design belies its sinister function but it manages to complete its task in such an elegant way, you forgive it.

Caroline’s winning conceptual submission is a public art piece that encourages biophilia and, in effect, promotes energy saving technology while providing sunlight to sun-deprived underground subways. By using fiber optic technology and patented sunlight collection panels, she plans to introduce sunlight to one of the most frequently enclosed urban environments: The Subway.

A closet door with hooks that fold out when open. That’s the general and brilliant idea behind the Easy closet. Storage space is sometimes a premium so any innovate way to get more of what you already have can be god send. There are enough hooks on the door to hang everything from bags to coats.

Right now the in thing with notebook computers are clean lines, and minimal design features. The Purity Notebook takes that to the extreme but manages to throw in a few of its own unique touches like the high lacquer finish. Nevermind the very Macbook Pro-like keyboard, it’s for the Windows crowd.

Egg: the name conjures up images of birth and nature. A nature observed through the eyes of a designer, Nanna Ditzel, who was particularly gifted in interpreting its inspirational values.
Egg is now 50 years old and its reassuring and soft swing still charms those who look for relaxation and cocooning, pleasures to savour during a brief pause or a long break.

Dimple challenges the conventional “human touch” technology by grafting subconscious instinctive human behavior onto technology. In the pursuit of designing a sensitive feedback for the human senses, we designed an intricate form of a dimpled depression, creating an almost unconscious but sensual occurrence of human nature to reach out for a unique element that titillates the fingertips subtly.

No worries, Sketchpet is a 150 page booklet designed for the creative inventor on the go. At a moments whim, you can jot down your ideas. Group Danhos has commissioned the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) to design Torre Bicentenario in the centre of Mexico City which will become the tallest building in Latin America. Completion is scheduled for 2010 to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence.

D-mension is a steel shelf that mixes cool 60’s mod with modern design. They can be installed in a staggered formation for a stunning effect or symmetrically for a more formal environment. They’re incredibly thin defying the amount of weight they can carry, adding to the curious allure as passer-byes look.

The first ashtray designed to weigh the amount of ash placed inside and give you an accurate indication of how much your smoking habits have brought you closer to death. Morbid I know but there’s some genius in it. This product was designed from the core to shock the smoker and make him/her think twice before lighting up.

Flat-pack furniture is becoming more and more popular with younger people since it’s easy to ship and build. The Knockdown Bookcase uses no screws, glue, wrenches, or instruction manuals. Each identical wood board is modular and slips into a supporting wall behind it. Design your bookshelf however you want. I mean just look at the girl in the picture. You know she did that all by herself. Look how happy she is. Cheeky.
