Looking at your watch in any social situation is indicative of being in a hurry. You glance at your watch during a meeting to see how much longer till you’re done, or at a dinner date because you really want to get out. While looking at your watch doesn’t always have a negative connotation, it basically is a reminder that time is passing you by, and that you’ve got places to be, things to do in the future. The Relax by StudioDWAS watch was designed to counter that feeling of rushing through life because of your ‘routine’. With its simplistic design, and blurred glass, Relax by StudioDWAS watch obscures the clarity of the time-telling experience. It takes a split second longer to read the time, and in that split second, the Relax by StudioDWAS watch tries to remind you to take a breath, and remember that moments matter.
The Relax by StudioDWAS watch is the only watch that consciously makes it harder to read the time. Going against the trend of usability, the Relax Watch tries to look at the bigger picture. Designed by StudioDWAS, the watch captures their passion for storytelling and design for emotion and reflection. Partnering with Japanese watchmakers, StudioDWAS went through multiple iterations to arrive at the right amount of ‘glass-frostedness’, making sure the hands of the watch were visible enough to tell time, but obscured enough to make the watch’s ethos and purpose obvious.
Designed to be contemplative, Relax by StudioDWAS watch boasts of an incredibly minimal design, with no extraneous embellishments to serve as distractions. The watches come with black and silver face variants, and in a smaller 38mm diameter and a larger 45mm diameter sizes. Encased in premium ion-plated stainless steel, with genuine calf-skin leather straps, the watches have a Japanese Miyota movement with 3 year battery life on the inside, and a frosted mineral crystal glass on the top, giving the watch its simple, contemplative appeal, and making the time underneath it visible yet just beyond our comprehension, as a reminder that life shouldn’t be rushed through, and that the journey is just as important as the destination.

Frosted Glass is Key to the Design
In collaboration with Japanese watch manufacturers, the designers created hundreds of frosted glass samples to achieve the perfect balance of movement and time, simplicity and meaning.
A carefully chosen combination of frosted glass finish, glass opaqueness, hands and watch face color gave the result the team were aiming for.
