Condom Protects You From Viruses!

Ding ding, yes it’s true. Condoms can significantly reduce the likelihood of you catching some nasty virus except this condom is designed for the digital kind. Computer viruses are just as virulent as the biological variety, just as insidious, and just as detrimental. The Condom USB is a device that acts as a stopgap between any USB enabled device and your computer.

As soon as the Condom USB detects a virus, built-in software shuts off USB access, verifies the problem, removes the nasty bug, then reopens the communication bridge to your computer. Snazzy but would this really work in the real world?

Possible you do get portable versions of the mainstream virus scanners. The issue would be the admin privilages needed to cancel a service on windows vista and restart the adapter.

no sir as its a hardware dongle you plug your thumb drive into all it has to do is shut of its own usb port… computer doesn't even have to know its been shut off…

I suppose what it could do is shut off the connection between itself and the connected USB device upon detecting a malicious program. Or for an added security level, all data passing through the USB connection is scanned as it passes through the “condom”, so I guess it can work both ways. It would probably slow down your transfer rates, but better safe than sorry I guess!

    hahhahaa
    this is fun!

for saltynay’s comment: if this “condom” reach the market, no one will be using Vista anymore!

  • Eric says:

I think it’s a fun idea, very marketable (team up with Trojan maybe?) However the features are something that should just be present on the USB drive itself. So this may be a cute accessory now, but later it will become useless.

  • fpga says:

Obviously a lack of technical knowledge is present here. USB is a communications standard and a USB drive is nothing more than NAND memory attached to a small microprocessor facilitating the USB communication. The only way to have a “stop-gap” between the PC and USB device would be to have an additional microprocessor scanning the files. And even that would be redundant since the PC itself could do that faster than an external microprocessor and the standard external USB storage device driver would have to be updated with new messages.

hardware doing what software does already..!

  • nizam says:

if this condoms really worked out in the said manner and filtered and killed all the deadly viruses, the nuisance of spy ware, anti virus ware alerts will be eliminated and the demand of anti virus software drops drastically. NizamHM

Shouldn’t a normal antivirus software do the same job?

It's a load of crap. If you don't trust the source of the usb or the data then don't put in the computer. You wouldn't sleep with a craic whore or pay a craic whore for sex without at least considering the possibility of genital herpes or worse, aids. Treat your usb drive and data and computer like genitals. Don't insert unknown objects and all will be well. Simples.

This isn’t a bad idea but you need to consider your demographic a little more. It’s frankley very difficult to infec tyour computer with virii via usb drives if you practice basic security measures to begin with. THis product will appeal to the less than technologically literate crowd. This same crowd is also likely less than intelligent all around and mor elikely to be conservative. Linking your product’s name to sexual behavior is the surest way to seeing that your target demographic shuns it entirely. Call it the Jesus stick or something.

i think the only way this kind of program could work right now would be providing a access/write lock for other devices ( like SD cards or old floppy drives.) either way i think this is really useless. In fact i think if this was to be amazing providing true protection, having a self destruct feature that hard formats the usb device automatically when your in jail or on a vacation, that way if the police or an angry girlfriend get a hold of the device, it will self format that way they have nothing on you. =D

  • Concept should be a category so I could make sure not to have it checked in interests.

  • nice info and smart

  • rocknroll says:

I don’t see the point. If you can design hardware to detect and prevent viruses, why not just integrate it into the motherboard or CPU? Then you would not only protect against viruses from USB but also from the internet, LANs, CD/DVD, etc.

  • LMAO. A condom for your data? What about TruCrypt?

  • That’s funny yet useful – Is it on sale it? Would love to try it out on my external HDD!
