Be Creative. Interior Design Competition

The Phoenix Contemporary Design Fair (PCDF) and kontakt magazine invite independent furniture designers to submit original furniture designs for a design competition. Conceived as a way to connect talented independent designers with furniture resellers and a design savvy public, finalists’ submissions will be displayed in a special section at PCDF and selected designers will be featured in kontakt magazine.

A panel consisting of furniture store buyers, interior designers, architects and kontakt magazine editors will review designs. The top ten designs selected will be displayed at PCDF, April 18-20, 2008. Awards will be given for best overall design and people’s choice, based on voting by attendees of PCDF.

To be considered, designers are asked to submit a completed entry form, up to three photo prints of product prototype, and supporting information including a biography. The Design Competition is open to any independent designer, as well as design students. Up to three submissions will be accepted from an individual or team of collaborators.

The deadline is March 14 and information and registration forms are available on

It sounds interesting, but what do the designers get out of it? There is no price money specified, nor will the ten finalist designs be put into production?

    Hi Jean-

Winning designs will be displayed at the Phoenix Contemporary Design Fair (PCDF) on April 18 – 20. Selected designs will also be featured in kontakt magazine, which is based out of Phoenix, Arizona. The website for the magazine can be visited at Exposure is the main benefit as we get thousands of visitors per day at PCDF. Design companies such as Poliform, Scavolini, NYLoft, and Poggen Pohl (to name a few) pay thousands of dollars to display at PCDF while design winners will be able to showcase for free and will also be invited to an exclusive kick-off party on Friday, April 18th.

Selected designs will be featured regardless of if the designer is able to be present as we understand not everyone is from Phoenix and therefore may not be able to make it to Phoenix.

By the time of PCDF, there must be a live prototype of the design. Unfortunately, there is no prize money with this competition. I hope that answers your questions. I hope you will still consider submitting your design.
