They are getting older by the second. That massive batch of the baby boomer generation adults is about to become the largest group of elderly the world will ever see in its history. Companies are scrambling to come out with products and services to appeal to this post world war 2 generation of increasingly confused citizens. The “EMC” (easy mobile calling) phone by designer Matthias Pinkert might just be what the doctor ordered.

2014 isn’t too far away so it’s nice when designers specifically target a time when their creations might meet reality. Take for example Peter Koren’s Flash (Adobe lawyers are standing by) mobile phone. Lets get the “duhs” out of the way first. Sleek, slim, buttonless, touchscreen color e-ink display, wireless charging, camera, and menu navigation via vertical and horizontal flicks. What, no gyro-thingamajiggy sensors?

Check out this concept mobile phone called the Mooon+. One too many “o’s” in there but I appreciate the clean design. It’s got that big gorgeous touchscreen, sleek design, sexy metal accents, and a digital camera. So what’s the big deal right? The mouth piece detaches and turns into a bluetooth headset. Ooh snap, I love it!

The Edge phone is designed for the style conscious fashionistas. The name has nothing to do with data speed. In fact we don’t even know what this phone is capable of because as with all fashion phones, looks rein supreme and the Edge phone makes sure you notice with its glowing glass keyboard.

It seems the word “tech” is synonymous with cold and stark. Metals, plastics, glass - they all evoke an ideal that some of us don’t want. Some of us want our devices to be warm, to have some semblance of nature. That feeling transcends deeper since it can affect our moods. The Chute Smartphone is all about the natural, organic, and moody.
