Dust In Design

Dust In Design

Love this project called Snow Dust. Dust is an inevitable reality, one that we usually sweep away in annoyance but this designer chose to embrace it. A series of everyday household objects like a fan, shutters, and lampshade are constructed to a complex geometric pattern designed to collect dust. Something that is supposed to be gross and dirty is suddenly highlighted and transformed into natural art, unpredictable and possibly beautiful.

Laser Engraved And Woodchuck Approved

Laser Engraved And Woodchuck Approved

It takes a person with true passion for his comic collectables and movie memorabilia to commission a whole display solution worthy of his prized possessions. The Collection Unit is a beautiful wood and steel cabinet designed and built by Flying Cavalries. The surface is intricately laser engraved with details so clear, it’s a little jaw dropping. It’s not our usual cup of tea but I appreciate the workmanship. Image how this looks at night lit up.

Let’s Scale Some Lights

Let’s Scale Some Lights

The Weight of Light is a simple structure lamp featuring a unique way to operate the light. Mimicking the style of an industrial scale, the intensity of the lamp is controlled by shifting the “weight” up and down the “scale”. I adore its refreshing approach, the cute way it tips the scale and minimal look.

USB Gets A New Face

USB Gets A New Face

The USB interface is quite fascinating, it’s got an entire peripheral industry started to cater to its existence! We have USB hubs, compatible heads for car-charging, compatible plugs for wall sockets, etc. To cut this long route of buying compatible peripherals just for the sake of charging, why not include the USB seat into a normal socket plate? Let it sit pretty next to the 3-pin socket…just as we see in this picture!

What An Adorable Lamp

What An Adorable Lamp

I love Marc Haldermann’s floor lamp called Puu. It’s modern, a little mid-century, yet sophisticated and whimsical. It’s as if he read my mind and made this lamp. It’s all wood using the lampshade’s own weight to create tension on the cord. Looks like a tree, or better yet – chicken feet. I want it. Marc, make me one!

Nightlight Simplified With Touch

Nightlight Simplified With Touch

The Senzo Nightlight is a very sweet intuitive light that is fitted on the wall, 80 centimeters above the floor. This specific position is so that both children and adults can touch it conveniently in the darkness. Let me explain, at night if you don’t have the lights on, you usually reach out to feel for the walls to get your bearings and then move forward. Fingertips skimming the walls till you reach the door, that’s the inspiration behind this design. So as you walk past touching the tube, a soft lighting follows you.

Complete Benshoshan Apartment Design

Complete Benshoshan Apartment Design

This is friggin awesome. This project is what happens when you’re a designer who has the rare combination of time, energy, knowhow, and an entire living space to work with (and a girlfriend with skills that’s just as willing as you are.) This is an apartment completely designed and executed by designer Ron Benshoshan and his girlfriend. From top to bottom, everything from the faucets in the bathroom to the floating unit below the TV.

The Stalb Lamp

The Stalb Lamp

There’s an austere aesthetic to the Stabl Lamp by Kassen. It blends biomorphic design elements with “brutalist principles in steadfast materials.” Indeed the mix of steel, curved to soften the effect, stands out on its concrete base. Topped with a simple hollow plywood block, one could say the design is at equilibrium. It’s a modernist approach but one that’s sure to stay relevant. Kassen is currently taking orders through their website. If any of you buy one, please post a picture on our Facebook page.

Open Up For More Workspace

Open Up For More Workspace

The general perception of an elegant office desk is one of a long distinguished looking table with plenty of drawers and probably fashioned out of mahogany. Coming out of the dream world and into reality, such office desks are out of our reach and we need to make-do with the flat table that comes our way. Designer Rebwar Faille comes up with a simple resolve with his idea of an office table…a mix between the school tables with concealed storage and long office desks. Perhaps not as elegant as mahogany, but functional enough!

Throne Fit For A Star King

Throne Fit For A Star King

Some chairs are better suited for sitting. Some are better suited for viewing. From the look of this new chair design by Darko Markovic, this chair was meant for both. The “Hodie Chair”(Hodie is Latin for “today”) is a minimalistic design with a wide, surefooted stance. Go ahead, squint your eyes a little and stare at this chair design. Do you see a mixture of intergalactic space commander seating mixed with a Formula One race car seating? No? Maybe it’s just me. Three point seat belt sold separately.

Space Saving Kitchen Table

Space Saving Kitchen Table

The Cook n’ Roll is super compact but has all the necessary equipment for basic food prep and cleanup – cooktop, dishwasher, sink, oven, storage and sanitizer. The sliding top is inductive  and can opened to reveal a sink basin. Not sure where the water comes from without plumbing but it magically appears with touch controls. The top itself rests moves thru a negative ion slate to sanitize, just like the nano coated jungle of spikes that holds the dishes.

Solo Storage Box Is Dizzyingly Awesome

Solo Storage Box Is Dizzyingly Awesome

Solo is a playfully interactive storage box with randomly placed cubes as handles totaling 36 drawers in varying lengths. The drawers are strategically placed to maximize storage. Inspired by architecture and typography, the design has even spawned its own eponymous font. I love how the piece demands attention. It’s bold but still tasteful. It looks like something the Riddler would have in his lair – a brain teaser just to find your socks.

Sponges And Greens Get Thirsty….

Sponges And Greens Get Thirsty….

…for the splatter of rain-soaked umbrellas! The Lawn For Rain is a really neat dish that has a dash of green springs at the bottom of the tray and huge sponge fingers. The idea is to mesh your wet umbrellas between the sponge fingers so that they soak in the water and dry it. The tiny plants at the bottom are kept hydrated via the excess drained water. Personally I think it’s a cute idea, but for cities like mine, where monsoons create havoc only for three months in a year, the poor plants would die of thirst later!
