Your Spoon is Doomed…

Spoons are so last year. Who has time to find a clean one, lift your hand, swirl your wrist to mix in sugar with your tea or coffee, tap the spoon dry or lick it and then place it back on the plate? I mean really, are we animals!? No, most of us are not. So that is why Florian Dussopt, Jérémie Reneau & Julie Girard got together and created the “Ceramix For Mix” saucer and cup design. All sarcasm aside, this is a elegant and simple design. Incorporating a molded glass groove (resembling a roulette wheel) that acts as a track for a ceramic ball as well as keep you from choking to death on it, the user is inclined to swirl the cup using centrifugal force to mix your beverage. I applaud the design and am still pondering its need over my premixed vanilla latte.

If the glass were taller it might work. It doesn’t seem like you could get the ball rolling fast enough without spilling at the moment…

The liquid and glass walls will provide too much resistance to allow the ball to roll freely without spilling and burning.

A bit more thinking or a taller rim would allow you to spin the ball harder without spill, and this concept could be fully realized.

somewhat similar to the automatic stirring machines used in labs- that is something i’d prefer to see over this design. what if the saucer contained all of the electronics and magnets to get a little metal agitator ball to spin around in your drink slowly whenever you put it down? that would be similar to this design but a little less likely to spill and probably a little more entertaining. but definitely a good thought process went into this, hopefully they will pursue it more.

Yeah, that ball won’t spin. You’d be better off not relying on it and spin your tea manually.

The ball would have to be significantly more dense than water, like say lead, or you’ll spill your drink before getting the ball rolling.

Why not just pour a little of your drink along with your sugar etc., swirl it around to dissolve then add more drink. It works fine for me all the time.

Id lose that ball, for sure… also, the last drops would stay in the bottom of the cup, it wouldnt get out for one to drink

My coffee mug works much better. You see, it has a LID on it. So I just close it and shake my coffee, cream and sugar until it’s good to drink. It does get a little frothy, but some people pay extra for that! lol

Meh. I’ve seen a better drink stirrer from that biodiesel episode on Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel, it was like a blender, but with no moving motors.
