Fruit Playground
Have you ever noticed how fruit seems to go bad faster in a bowl? It’s true! Some uber-chemical process with gases occurs just from the fruit touching each other. The Portafrutta remedies thats problem by using 35 individually laser cut pieces of wood to form peaks and valleys. The design strategically spreads fruit out without too much contact between them. Even without fruit there’s a nice sculptural quality to it.
Designer: Angela Violino & Tim Boyce

Yeah, I agree, it would be good to see a few bananas and apples there. I like the looks of it, though.

I love this website (yanko design) but day after day, it’s so dissapointing not knowing where to find all the cool stuff. Luckily, I found something on here that I actually know where it can be purchased. So here’s the website. I’m not entirely sure it’s the EXACT thing as above.. but definitely the same concept… if not cooler.

Dear Elisabeth. I am one of the designers who designed Portafrutta. It can be purchased at http://www.industreal.it
Industreal is the company who makes it. If you don’t want to buy it by their website you can write them an email and I am sure they will let you know where you can buy in your country.
It is not the same concept as the one of your link. It piece was realised as a prototype for the 2005 exhibit ‘Model Ideas’ by Industreal and now is in production.
It’s very light but strong at the same time. It’s made of Cherry wood.
If you want more details on the product you can visit our website http://www.atelierdoodle.com or contact me at angie@atelierdoodle.com
by the way THANK A LOT for all the nice comments on our product we really do try our best!
