Sands Of Time

Sands Of Time

Besides the obvious, another purpose of a wall clock is to add a sense of identity to the wall that it hangs from. Sand as a metaphor for time is slipping through our hands and we can’t turn back the clock! This digitalized version reflects this sentiment and features two modes: night and day. As Natalia explains, “The main idea lies in the mechanism of the Sand Glass Clock: the lost time – at the bottom, future – on top.”

So what do you think….can you keep up with the pace of TIME?

LEED Platinum Certified in Los Angeles

LEED Platinum Certified in Los Angeles

Cherokee Studios by REthink Development is a new soon to be completed project in Los Angeles boasting LEED Platinum certification. Huge Kudos to REthink since this is only 1 of 12 buildings in California to achieve that rating. The building won’t be completed until September ’09 but I’m so giddy with excitement that I think REthink and whomever the land owners are should just let me move in. Better yet, lets open the Yanko Design Los Angeles branch in the building!

Of course that means having something small yet powerful enough to really make all the money I’ve spent on digital music worth it. Enter the JBL On Stage 400P speaker.

Mobile Script Phone Needs No Stinkin' Batteries

Mobile Script Phone Needs No Stinkin’ Batteries

Yay! It’s been awhile since we’ve posted a mobile phone concept that promises to do everything under the sun in the thinnest form factor. I was getting withdrawal symptoms. The Mobile Script phone explores what functions any contemporary mobile device should have; internet access, documents on the go, games, communication, and mobility.

Gorge Coffee Table, It'll Stab Ya

Gorge Coffee Table, It’ll Stab Ya

Gorge is a coffee table inspired by a gorge. The deep valleys and canyons are created using powdered coated steel bent into a V-shape. The design plays up the muse but also provides structural integrity and storage opportunities for books and magazines. I see a perfect spot for my dog to make his den too. Nevermind that you could accidentally impale yourself on one of those corners. Gotta bleed for design you know.

Classy Kitchen Companions

Classy Kitchen Companions

Of the many things that you require to make your kitchen aesthetically functional, the cutting board, colander, and knife block require the most amount of attention due to the work that they do. These components have to be visually appealing as well as competent enough to endure the rigors that they go through daily. A set of sculpted functional blocks called the Workspace Component Group has been specifically designed for the Backplash System of kitchens by Henrybuilt. They are designed to be integrated around the sink and work classy!

Convenient Scoop Plus Lock

Convenient Scoop Plus Lock

Besides having a dedicated “Pets” section on YD, we even have a resident pet Miko, who actually reviews various products for us. I wonder what he will have to say about the portion this Pet Food Scoop dishes out. Anyways this scoop is more for his master’s convenience than his, coz it can double up as a fastener for the opened doggy food bag. As for the portion size, if one scoop ain’t enough then just measure out another!

Swarna IDC Degree Show 2009

Swarna IDC Degree Show 2009

Besides hosting the usual buffet of seminars and workshops for their Swarna 2009 Degree Show, folks at Industrial Design Centre IIT Mumbai had a spectacular exhibition for their graduating class. Although I got to sift through the Industrial Design, Animation Design, Visual Communication and Interaction Design faculties, I naturally gravitated towards the ID section. Follow me to see the some of the innovative gems I discovered at the show.

GenevaSound Medium Review

GenevaSound Medium Review

Audiophiles are a picky bunch. They know what they like and if a sound system isn’t up to snuff – they pass on it without any chance for reprieve. We’ve only reviewed one other $600+ stereo and that was the B&W Zeppelin. There’s a new challenger, one with more awards and accolades than I can count. The GenevaSound Medium is an audio feast for anyone who wants to hear music the way it was meant to be heard. The design is ultra modern in an approachable sense. Hit the jump for my review.

Take a look at the video after the jump to understand it better.
