Zaha Hadid Created This Hot Mess

Zaha Hadid Created This Hot Mess

I’ll keep this straight forward. This shoe is the result from a collaboration between renowned architect Zaha Hadid and Brazilian fashion label Melissa. As with any Zaha Hadid design, the sweeping conundrums are rightly apparent and I hate it. It took Hadid 2 years to come up with this? I’m aware those organic arcs hug the foot perfectly but whenever architects try to create fashion, they birth deconstructive genius like Rae Kawakubo or total disasters like this concoction.

A Little Bit of College Ruled Genius

A Little Bit of College Ruled Genius

By our friend and returning Yanko champion, Sherwood Forlee. Check out the simplicity. Just punch out the corner, make a cut or two, fold back, and POW! You are green. You are sooo green. And Sherwood told us to make sure to mention that the money you save on staples is money you should spend on something totally nice for yourself. So, you know what to do!

Get out there and kick-start the economy!

You Have Never Folded Like This Chair Folds

You Have Never Folded Like This Chair Folds

Alright. This is it. This is the folding chair you’ve been waiting for. It’s designed to be comfortable (of course), stack well (of course), and totally look amazing. It’s springy, compact folded in or out, and has been worked on with tender loving care by designer Jens Tandstad for basically a billion years.

OMG It’s Like Mad Max Circa 2009

The Gladiat8r concept is inspired by gladiator helmets of ancient Rome. Its weight is distributed across the entire surface, a carefully spaced “ribcage” ensuring the shades remain in place during use but also reduce friction from the usual support areas such as the nose-bridge and ears.

Problem I didn't Know I Had, Solved

Problem I didn’t Know I Had, Solved

I’ve always accepted paper trays and feeders as printer necessities but I guess it’s nice to dispense of them if possible. The Concav printer takes advantage of statics, i.e. when paper is slightly held bent, it won’t collapse – using it’s own weight as support. Paper feeds in one way, comes out the other. It even uses obligatory CMYK cartridges as a design element in what otherwise is a stark design.

The One True Vinyl iPod Killer

The One True Vinyl iPod Killer

It doesn’t quite play real vinyl. It does appear to roll through records, though. It’s nice and roundy, it’s got multiple color schemes and configurations… it’s totally unnatural.

It’s called the Soma, and it comes in plastic, steel, wood, leather and a Yanko favorite: bamboo!

A Tap With Haptic Response

A Tap With Haptic Response

Broaching the subject of being frugal with water brings me to this new concept in taps that incorporates the tactile prowess of a user in relation to haptic responses. The Gemini is a water tap design that uses a one-touch lateral operating valve system to function. In a blink, the on-board wall diverter swiftly controls the flow of the water from a stimulating jet to a therapeutic cascade.

Ditch Merry-go-round, Let’s Swing

Ditch Merry-go-round, Let’s Swing

Sang-Hoon Lee’s Swing bench brings to mind that episode of FRIENDS, where Rachel is petrified of the swing and how Ross helps her overcome her irrational fears. For the life of me, I can’t imagine my childhood without the thrill of swinging in the park with innocent abandonment. Now that I’m all grown up (and a few pounds heavier), the kids won’t just let me take the joyride again. I guess I’ll have to make do with the Swing Bench to satisfy my urge to be a kid again.

The Arc Of The Project, A Real World Tale

The Arc Of The Project, A Real World Tale

Entrepreneurs/inventors go through many stages of enterprise and end to end can mean from product conception through to some resolution. The normal resolutions are sale of the technology, startup of an operating company with its sale to another firm, operating the company to build a brand or abandonment of the project due to market or financial forces. In general, end-to-end means concept through market insertion.

Heat It Up

Heat It Up

Portable beverage heaters aren’t anything new but the “Hottie” attempts to 1-up the competition by using silver as the conductive metal, with 3 modular containers to hold instant coffee, creme, and sugar. All this in one neat little package.

Foldable Bowl

Foldable Bowl

This is so easy to figure out I don’t even have to explain it. I think it’s fabulous for camping, drinks, picnics, impromptu gatherings, or even when you’re too lazy to wash dishes. Tho you can use the Foldable Bowl for just about anything, I’d avoid hot foods. My only gripe is the material. Plastic, really? Do we need to go down that road again? I didn’t step into some alternate universe where plastic and nature get along fabulously right?
