A Chair for Clingy Lovers
If you’ve ever had someone sit in your lap, you know that 15 minutes is about the max your legs can handle. It’s really not fair. The Hug chair brings simple design and human gesture together for that extra time you want to sit with your significant other. When you’re away from your special someone the extra seat doubles as a convenient space, perfect for catching up on video chat.

Very nice! Would be even better if it could be adjusted, and moved to different heights etc
Herp Derp says
if you actually look at the diagram of how they are sitting in that chair, your leg doesnt go underneath the female platform. you sit caddy corner with your leg AGAINST it, and the girl sits merrily on a platform with her legs in your lap. Theres no need for different heights
James says
I assume that the male section and female section have both been catered for all sizes of people? I would guess that for 8/10 people, this wouldn't be comfortable or even sittable. Gorgeous idea, just needs work.
Matt says
maybe lose some weight?
Guest 23 says
Well that was rather…rude…
Honestly, the top level looks like it could hold about 70 or 80 pounds before it would start to buckle or sag. And no one I know over the age of twelve weighs 70 or 80 pounds. It also looks like it's made for people with size 0 butts. And hey, newsflash, not everyone is an anorexic supermodel.
And even with a sturdier design and wider seats, people don't sit like that and hold still when they're lap-hugging. They move around, they snuggle and cuddle. As it is, the design would be pretty useless when it comes to snuggling.
About as comfortable as a school desk, and about as useful. Maybe a good laptop desk, but….I just can't imagine it being at all comfortable for sitting “on” someone's lap. Maybe if the seats were widened and lengthened out, more like a two-tier loveseat than a school chair, it would be a bit more realistic.
Jenn says
Before you call out people for being rude…
I'm a size zero, eat 5 meals a day, always have sweets, but far from an anorexic supermodel.
So before calling someone out, maybe you should check your own comments.
liz says
you're completely missing the point. Not everyone is as awesome as you…duh.
brotherjon says
yeah Jenn, you are too awesome….except for that rude thing
Guest says
no one was talking to you or even said anything to you that would be considered in the least bit offensive. matt's comment was rude.
thats like matt said try some acne cream! & guest said he was rude cause not everyone has washes it every minute like some people with flawless skin & you come around all oh i rub grease on my face but my skin is flawless so get your facts straight. like wtf? you're annoying.

Great, except that I'm not straight therefore according to the picture this chair won't work for me and my partner.

Relax, that woman is really a man cross dressing.

That's handy for the first month of the relationship. Then, it's a chair for the next 50 years. At least it's functional.
Gravis Beacon says
@TerrisLinenbach I've been married for close to 7 years and my wife still sits on my lap a couple times a week…
@TerrisLinenbach says
Don't wake up from your dream then
Irving says
Sorry Terris, but just because you have no intimacy left in your relationship dosen't mean that nobody else does.
John says
Ouch! Hey Terris, you want some aloe for that burn?

Is this chair available for purchase somewhere? I don’t see it on the Yanko Design website.
Daniel Preda says
Nice chair:)) You must sale it.
Mike Barnard says
Apparently homophobic comment from Joe reported to site administrators.
Re the chair: fun curvy twist. I can see this with stain resistant fabric having a variety of uses beyond laptops and laps.
Keep designing.

Honestly, is this what bright minds are spending their time on? This designs only saving grace is that it can double as a mini-workstation for a laptop or a book. Can't we use talent to create well-designed products for more necessary means? It almost seems ignorant to even consider a product this extravagant in world being darkened by the shadow of carbon credits and tsunami devastation. A cute idea by the priorities seem a little skewed.
see u nxt tuesday! says
I would like to add more than one thumb down to your stupid freaking comment. An interior decorator/artist/whatever the hell they want to call themselves, need not apply oneself to a fictitious idea of “carbon credits” or the rescue effort in Japan. They need to keep on doing what they're doing, making furniture and art, and sometimes art that is furniture (visa versa).
So, you can simply consider this reply as an additional five thumbs down, you douche.
fashionvsfunction says
You can add as many thumbs down to my comment as you like, but your knee-jerk reaction to my words doesn't present much of an argument for those you are trying to support. As a designer myself, and a concerned citizen, I (and a considerably large group of respected designers the world over) see an increasing need to create products that contribute to the greater good, help people, or reinvent dated attitudes toward product development. I'm sorry you weren't able to keep your post professional.
functionvsfunction says
WOW, it's really cool that you thought of big words like “carbon credits” and “tsunami devastation”. I bet your pretentious attitude has helped saved a TON of lives. Also, just in retort… you were so quick to judge the “bright minds” that designed this chair and what a waste of time that was. Speaking of wasting time, didn't you also waste precious life-saving time looking at this stuff online, and then not only did you take the time to look through all this, you then took the time to post comments with all your negative nancy attitude… think of the lampshade you could have designed that would bring an end to global warming! I bet spewing all that negativity is really helping the Japanese economy get back on its feet, too. Thanks for all you help, Superman.
bleh says
your an idiot…global warming, lamp shade…stfu…mr designer man…
just cause this guy didn't use his “talents” to help out global 'threats” doesn't mean he wasted his time. Bet he makes a million bucks before you do.
You self righteous mofo. I can already see your one of those that thinks he's better than everyone and has to put a word in on EVERYTHING even if it's negative and NOT needed. Go design something a glory hole or something. Douche.
Pu face says
I think the fact that your comments pulled in a combined total of -53 and “see u next Tuesday”s comments pulled in a +15 proves that you are, at least in the general public's eye, wrong. I'm sorry my friend. Better luck next time.

perhaps a storage area on the back of the chair?

Jose Rodriguez says
Realisticly when you have a piece of furniture for two persons they better really love each other like no other a lot like stuck on crazy glue status. Now for some rudimentary questions. Can you have sex on that piece furniture? Can it host a 300 lb heffer? Can you pass out on it? If you woke up one morning and there is a grizzly bear stairing directly at you right in your face what can do to get off of there quickly? If your clingy partner bought it and then you separate from him/her cuz they are way to clingy would you take it back? Is it easy cleaning for messy individuals? If your in a bad mood can you separate it into two pieces so that you can push your partner away when you feel it's nessary? It looks like Gigantasaurus Toilet seat for fat people where is the bowl? These are Q&A's that need answering.

I agree with Jenn. I am 5ft3 and a size DOUBLE ZERO. Bring on the thumbs down. Why? Because I'm 20, working 2 jobs, and too poor to eat 3 meals a day. I'm terribly sorry if that makes people unhappy. I cant control my weight any more than you can control yours. Everyone is so quick to judge.
On a brighter note, this is a brilliant chair

cute chair; it doesn’t look very comfortable for 2 people as they are depicting, i think the usage as a platform for a laptop or whatever… why is everyone talking about things that have nothing to do with the chair or furniture or design at all?
csy says
oops i meant i think the usage as a platform for a laptop or whatever looks more practical. sorry for not finishing that thought in my previous post.

Thanks for the worthless post Nate. We’re all very happy for you. Congratulations for not being a college kid. I guess you’re a full grown boring adult now huh. Stay seated comfortably in your lazy boy and read the newspaper. Leave the internet to the youth and the creative people in this world who still think outside the box.
Curator of Shit says
this chair will never be used for that purpose…it would be better for sitting and eating chips

Lose weight, the top shelf can hold 150lbs max, if you are female over that weight and aren’t intensely tall, you are larger than you should be. CHeck you height/weight index, aim for a 13-16% body fat. Work out for tone muscle, and do cardio, don’t be fat. ;D
Abby says
That’s such a shame!!!! I wish it was stronger!!!

Gain muscle? That won’t exactly help with the 150 boundary bro

Perfect for laptops, not sure about cligy lovers, I like it a lot
Kai says
This IS ingenius. of course needs some work, but the idea is what counts am I right? doesn’t have to be the literal design, but it basically gets the idea across. I mean the seat could easily be improved, some cushions and more room for stabilization as well as to accommodate anyone of all sizes(within reason). I am thinking more like a recliner chair etc. I hope that clears it up. Never would have thought of this.
Autumn says
The higher platform isn’t just for females.
Doug says
It is simple and elegant. The diagram of the couple is there to help the unimaginative. The top is supported the exact same way as the bottom and can support the same weight as the bottom.

I like that one ^^!

Just let her sit on your lap.

People like are you are infuriating. You preach this Well I’m judge-free and it’s okay to be overweight etc.etc. But then you attack thin people! I’m a size 0 and weigh 95 pounds but I’m not anorexic OR a model! I have a problem gaining weight but here are people like you who trash skinny people.
It’s a cute chair and sure I doubt it’d start to sag with a bit more weight but then hey- don’t buy it.
