Awesomely Autonomous Auto

Awesomely Autonomous Auto

The Uniblock automated vehicle is actually a modular 3-cars-in-1! The clever design splits up to tackle different scenarios. In single car mode, it’s beneficial for short distances or using narrow roads. Expanded to two or three, Uniblock becomes the perfect caravan for making long journeys on the wider open road. Best of all, it will drive itself so you can sit back and relax inside the comfy reconfigurable cabin!

Highly Evolved Transport

Highly Evolved Transport

The BMW Honeycomb concept’s aim is not to reinvent the automobile, rather, it’s to entirely reshape the way we think about urban transportation! Inspired by the socially evolved bee, the system works as a colony of well-organized vehicles that communicate with each other and with users to get people where they need to be. When a user books one of the autonomous cars from their smartphone, it leaves the hub… picks them up… delivers them… and either returns to charge or starts on a new mission!

Getting To Know Mr. Handsome + 4 with QWSTIONs

Getting To Know Mr. Handsome + 4 with QWSTIONs

I would like to play 20-questions with the team QWSTION, but it will be counterproductive. For one, I can’t stop staring at Matt (he’s so handsome) and secondly, I think like their motto of asking the right questions, I can get to know more with less. Last Monday I showcased two awesome bags by the Brady Bunch from the heart of Europe. Today I ask QWSTION some questions….read on…

Sink AND Shower

Sink AND Shower

Two in One combines the functionality of both a shower and sink faucet into one object. How?! Thanks to a sealed, jointed arm, the user simply rotates the shower head down to direct water over the sink. It’s not exactly the first solution you might think of to cut back on materials or save space, but the result is nonetheless clever and attractive so long as you can squeeze its specific dimensions into your bathroom.

Value of Hot Food

Value of Hot Food

The Vacuum Lunchbox is a neat hotbox concept that hopes to keep your food fresh and piping hot. The idea is to have the box airtight and that no heat escapes. I love the design style the idea of carrying this to my next picnic at Central Park.

Fantastic Flying Books!

Fantastic Flying Books!

This design is a bit whimsy, a little outlandish, and a lot imagination-inspiring… just like a good book! Inspired by the 2012 Oscar-winning animation “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore,” designer Kiril Gitman sought out to recreate the very image of books flying miraculously. The result is BY THE BOOK: a playful alternative to a bookshelf that you can adjust to your liking with your favorite reads!

This Stool's No Stump

This Stool’s No Stump

Metsä (Finnish for “forest”) is the result of two designers’ trip abroad to a little Finnish town called Lahti! Inspired by the area’s lush landscape, Metsä’s 9 legs create a geometric abstraction of a tree structure while giving it structural integrity. Composed entirely of raw birch, its aesthetic is the best of both natural and modern!

Precision Machined Minimalism

Precision Machined Minimalism

The Tech Force Pen is a solid housing for the HI-Tec C Ink Cartridge. Extremely popular among architects, artists, students, and designers, the cartridge is noteworthy for its C Ink composition, tip design, and fine line capability. The Tech Force Pen comes with a sleeve etched with metric and imperial ruler indications. The pen glides into the ruler sleeve where it is held in place by pneumatic pressure. When pulled from the ruler sleeve the escaping air makes a characteristic “pop” sound! Vid after the jump!

The CAE Blind Smartphone Concept is a new way of looking at smartphones. The purpose here is to have a device with digital accessibility to both the sighted and the impaired. The approach and UI is very realistic and something that can be integrated easily. Have a look and tell me your thoughts.

Women In Industrial Design Show 2014 in San Francisco

Women In Industrial Design Show 2014 in San Francisco

Although I had worked with Ti Chang, the spark behind the DUET, I met her for the first time at the IDSA’s Conference in Chicago (2013). One of our first conversations was about how there is little recognition and fame for Women in Design. Those at the conference will recollect her Individual Talk on the same subject and how passionate she was. I guess the fire thus ignited has resulted in the phenomenal Women In Industrial Design Show 2014, to be held in San Francisco.
