Each of the items you see here were inspired by biological samples that made their way from the science lab to the art studio. The Middle Staple

The Middle Staple

There are several reasons why I want to introduce the Center Stapler, but the primary one is for the fact that it can staple the middle section of a book. This one of the most hard-to-get places while re-binding a book and I know the pain, cause in high school I’d have to use scotch tape to do a shoddy job of holding the pages together! Anyhow, if the next-gen is this lucky, then someone will surely take this concept forward and make it see the light of day!

The Elegant Simplicity Of Growing Plants

The Elegant Simplicity Of Growing Plants

Like many, I tend to bury my green-thumb aspirations because I don’t have the time or the expertise to manage houseplants. I was looking for tools that could help people like me grow more than just those good-luck bamboo plants when I found the OPUS GARTEN. Michael Good, the man behind the successful Kickstarter BIGrootcup Campaign is out with this new line of indoor gardening products that promise to make indoor gardening fun and easy. Let’s look at in-depth.

Introducing... Jumbo!

Introducing… Jumbo!

The cutest way to dry your cutlery! With a fun and functional aesthetic, this sink-side elephant takes the irritation out of waiting for wet dishes to dry. It collects the runoff water and directs it back into the sink, freeing up your counter space and keeping it dry.

Drive... or don't!

Drive… or don’t!

A winner of the 2014 Driven/Undriven Michelin Design Challenge, the AKA24 concept goes beyond the brief to design a vehicle that switches between user-control & autonomy; it reimagines the entire transportation system as we know it. Operating on a maglev-like system of tracks, the vehicle moves to the protected side walls vertically in “undriven” mode & back to the center lane for the user-controlled “driven” mode. Set your destination & kick back in the multi-position cabin or take the wheel to navigate your own way!

The Same, But Different

The Same, But Different

Metropolis is a project designed to express two opposing bedside tables- one representing day and the other night. The overall shape of the tables are the same, but the details and colors are in complete contrast. Day is portrayed as more calm, friendly and inviting… while the night has more of a extroverted, polarizing, even sinister character.

Mosquito Bytes

Mosquito Bytes

The Portable Insect Repellent is designed as a sleek charm that can be attached onto your backpack and remain unobtrusive. It quietly diffuses the repellent and keeps your environment insect-free. I love the idea of keeping this simple-designed and portable; making sure you can carry it everywhere without feeling odd.

Fire Bombs

Fire Bombs

Love this clever design for a Fire Extinguisher! It has several water bombs – or balls if you’d like to call them that, which can be used instantly for small fires. It’s definitely a radical redesign that I’m seeing for the first time. Several tweaks to it and you can have a brand new take on how to put out fires!

A Cabbie-less Cab

A Cabbie-less Cab

Self-driving cars are now a reality with companies like Google finding success in their driverless programs. We often associate the idea with how it affects us and our personal vehicles, but the question remains as to what it means for public transportation. The BOT concept is one glimpse into how autonomous mass transit of the future might look… and it’s freakin’ adorable! Check out the vid to see why it took home 1st place in the 2014 Michelin Design Challenge!
