Design with Unseen Waves

Design with Unseen Waves

This year, Milanese design fair Salone De Mobile turned 50 years young, & to celebrate, Ezri Tarazi & the d-Vision Group looked 50 years to the future to waves of a frequency currently undiscovered by man. This frequency, as they imagine it, is called the “ultra-gamma ray.” The five giant lighting structures represent the ray & change in hue & light intensity via the central station. Sure it’s whimsical, but it’s also a profound reminder that we’ve only just scratched the surface of possibility.

Milan 2007: Ingo Maurer & Random International

In conjunction with Random International – the young London based tech-design collaboration – lighting guru extraodinaire Ingo Maurer displayed some very hi-tech lighting. Random International had its UV printer on display again, able to print random images on UV film which disappear after a few seconds. Is this the future of advertising

Showing that luxury and creativity can mix, this years design from Serralunga combines more traditional forms with interesting layering and transparency to create some very chic but challenging product. New Wave by Ross Lovegrove is a singular design that appears to change and adapt within space in a kinetic way as one moves around it generating a flow and dynamic from a static object.

Milan 2007: Studio Job & Jaime Hayon for Bisazza

Having highlighted the two installations by Jaime Hayon and Studio Job in our Salone preview, we couldn’t wait to see the finished pieces. And we certainly weren’t disappointed.

Studio Job’s Silver Ware’ installation was spectacularly show-stopping. Gaudy but surprisingly delicate, they played with the scale and material of traditional tableware pieces, supersizing each object and covering them in white gold mosaic.
