Powered By Trash
A lamppost powered by trash seems like a strange idea but if you think about the ratio between city trash and energy needs – things start to make sense, kinda. This lamppost composts trash and uses the methane byproduct as a fuel to power the lamps. The compost can then be retrieved to re-green our cities. I like the idea but it’s not clear how much trash is needed to keep such a system going.

Really ingenious idea! But like Long Tran says – it will need consistent trash to keep it running.
Unless it switches from using electric energy when there isn’t enough trash in the lamppost.

I have thought about this for garden lights. Does not need to look so pretty, more rustic would be better for my purpose. Clap activated to not use extra energy when not required. Explore the use of a ‘green’ rechargable battery. Compost is right where it needs to be used.
I’m looking forward to the evolution of this item.

I think it can be designed like the HEV,the energy can be supplied by both the electric energy and the methane, when the trash is not enough ,it will switch to the electric energy.

Too bad most people won’t read the “food waste only” part…they could easily keep something like this running off all the fast food people throw out in Times Square or Penn Station.
