Here’s a neato way to combine nature with human technology. The Flower Filament only lights up if there’s a flower in it. Yes designer Ha-Na Yeom some how managed to use the flower as a switch to lights up the hollowed out design which just so happens looks like a light bulb.

Here is the question of the moment in my head; should the use of light be considered a design aspect? Now I don’t mean the designing of light sources e.g.. lamps, chandeliers etc. I mean the light that is emitted itself. Standing on its own, is that design or simply a cool visual effect? For that matter, is it simply visual “art” like a movie, laser light show or music video? Which brings me to this temporary make-over of the Phyletic Museum in Germany by artist Robert Seidel.

There is a wind blowing from the east and it smells a little like wasabi, ginger and fresh paint. It turns out its just Mazda showing off its latest design direction, the Mazda “Taiki.” Inspired by the shape and flow of wind itself, Mazda declares the exterior lines are inspired by wind flowing through a Hagoromo, the “flowing robes that enable a celestial maiden to fly.”

As a musician myself, turning sheet music is the bane of my art. Ok I confess. I haven’t touched a musical instrument since the 11th grade but I did play for almost 8 years so there! Back to the subject at hand, the CLEF system consists of a flexible LCD touch screen with a built-in stand and a wireless foot pedal.

If we’ve seen one rocking chair concept, we’ve seen them all - they all literally rock. So what’s different about the CNC Rocking Chair? First off, its design almost begs to be rocked. Those two ellipticals look like they’d be a ton of fun.

It is strange to think that not too long ago there were no such things as pixels. Before the invention of photography, artificial pixels (short for PICture ELements)simply did not exist. It wasn’t until the personal computer hit the mainstream did the word “pixel” become widely known outside of geeks, video/photographers and the CIA.

It seems Philippe Starck has made enough toothbrushes, toasters, watches, mopeds, chairs, trendy hotels, mediocre sushi restaurants and piles of money. So what is this shamelessly self promoting product designer doing now to get attention? Biting the hand that feeds him of course. In a recent interview with Germany’s Die Zeit Magazine, Mr. Starck proclaims the “death of design.”
