With Click & Grow Everyone Can Become A Gardener

With Click & Grow Everyone Can Become A Gardener

When Click & Grow became a part of the YD Roadshow in Chennai, I was both ecstatic and weary. Ecstatic that YD will be showcasing such an innovative product and weary that I was to nurture and grow the plant for the event. A beautiful Basil and Cockscomb smartpot arrived at my doorstep and I got started almost immediately. I’ll skip the details on how-to-grow, as it is explained adeptly in the video after the jump and get to more about the experience of growing my first plant ever!

Smart Measure

Smart Measure

Why this doesn’t exist already, I’m not sure. But it should. Now. 3 problems with common measure spoons: they don’t stay together, you need a second utensil to level the ingredient for an accurate measurement, and they spill easily. Sucks right? This super-smart solution solves all three problems in one of the most simple designs I’ve seen. Wham, bam, problem solved. Check out the vid to see how it works!

The Virtual Reality Phone is Here

The Virtual Reality Phone is Here

The award winning LG Touch mobile phone concept combines state-of-the-art touch technology with a minimalist aesthetic that challenges the limitations of existing mobile phones. The primary feature is a high-tech polymer membrane touch surface that constantly changes to give the user tactile feedback to what’s displayed on the screen. It allows those with sight impairments to read Braille, or users who are shopping online to literally feel the texture of the material they are looking at. It’s virtual reality put to real world use.

Brain Training Furniture

Brain Training Furniture

The Lean on Me series of furniture by TSCHUS studio (a team of really cute designers I might add!) aims to challenge the user to rethink the way each object is used by forcing them to evaluate each interaction they have with the piece. For example, while most chairs dictate a predetermined direction and seating position, the “12min Stool” pictured here requires the user to make a conscious decision about what direction and what position they will sit. Meet the Brusheads

Meet the Brusheads

The Brusheads is a genius toothbrush collection that will have little ones begging to brush instead of resisting like they often do. Each fun, portable Brushead is presented as a 3D sculptured character that kids will love. The USB powered brushes feature intelligent sensors that detect brushing patterns & play fun audio messages as they’re used to encourage good practice. A synced mobile app lets kids compete their characters with peers & helps parents monitor brushing habits. I call dibs on the panda!

Diamond Inspired Blender

Diamond Inspired Blender

Everyone knows that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, right? The Cullinan Diamond Blender aims to appeal to the feminine side with a raw diamond shape that definitely stands out from the archetype. To improve vorticity and consistency, the functional shape of the internal canister was adapted to the tendency of fluids to naturally keep a continuous momentum when stirred. Just don’t give it to your girlfriend when she’s expecting actual diamonds… you might just get slapped!

Modern Toys with Classic Crafstmanship

Modern Toys with Classic Crafstmanship

The thoughtfully designed Coop line of toys brings us back to a simpler time and place when handcrafted perfection (not mass production) was the method of choice. The rideable bike and 2 trikes are an ecological alternative that combine reclaimed wood with premium hardware – easily constructed right out of the box with a simple allen wrench. Better yet, after the toy has outlived its life, you can send it back to be reclaimed again to build new toys and receive a 10% reimbursement!

Table With an Identity Crisis

Table With an Identity Crisis

One look at the Split Personality table’s contrasting aesthetic and it’s easy to understand the clever name! The coffee table was inspired by designer Axel Yberg’s own self reflection on his constant personal battle of opposing emotions when presented with a design challenge. With steel legs on one side & black walnut on the other, the materials meet in the middle to create an interwoven representation of the harmony created when everything finally comes together. Something many designers can relate to!

Globetrotting From Home

Globetrotting From Home

My first introduction to the world of maps was this magnificent wooden globe, placed in my father’s office. The times when it became impossible to understand the trade-winds route or memorize the landmarks and seas, I’d turn to this globe for help and learn it all up in a jiffy. Times have changed now and affording one of those antique globes is just a far fetched dream. However a contemporary and kitsch take on the maps is here in the form of the Color Maps. They come in four sweet themes: Midnight, Chocolate, City Lights and Pop Color Maps.

The Egg-cercise Chair

The Egg-cercise Chair

Gotta love this über-cool design by Andrea Santarossa! The Kokkode chair’s playful egg shape isn’t just for looks, it also encourages correct posture. Composed using cold polyurethane foam injection and a counterweight for balance located at the bottom, the ergonomic design adapts to the postural needs of the seated person by forcing them to rely on their core muscles.
