Spin Doctor

Spin Doctor

No relation to the band, but this groovy headphone is interactive and allows you to play with your music. It features a 4-axis-directional button on one side; this is to pick the samples available on the SD card. The other side features a rotatable part to scratch your MP3 on the go!

Skeletal Screen-Wall

Skeletal Screen-Wall

Because they usually come in limited sizes, finding the right room divider can be tricky. Ferma, however, provides a simple, customizable solution in the form of a modular system consisting of thin circular sections & connecting elements. The concept allows the user to construct the screen in an unlimited combination of sizes & shapes – from small to large. Though the construction is minimal, the structure is strong enough to support other furniture elements like shelving or a glass top. Great for defining spaces in contemporary & classic environments alike.

Repurposing the Reusable Grocery Bags

Repurposing the Reusable Grocery Bags

Even though my intentions are good, I’m guilty of being one of those people who takes the reusable grocery shopping bag only to never use it again! It usually ends up stuffed under sink or in a closet. This design aims to ensure the bag is reused in an entirely different way. It’s just rigid enough to carry your groceries home and then use it as a garbage bin. Stackable and available in a number of different colors, it’s an effortless way to reduce plastic consumption.

Eggs Anywhere

Eggs Anywhere

The ultra-portable Heater Egg Card utilizes a wire-web and thin skin that envelops the egg to reduce heating time. The casing can then be “smooshed” together to make it as thin as a credit card. Small enough to take anywhere in your wallet, purse, or other compact carrier.

Every Bathroom Needs This

Every Bathroom Needs This

What good is a Roca or a Reece designed bathroom if it isn’t fitted with futuristic gadgets that compliment their elegance! I’m talking about the Breeze Rack – an appropriate towel rack, hair dryer, bathroom ventilator and sterilizer! The device can be used to ventilate the room by circulating air, as a towel rail and can even dry and sanitize towels. The hair dryer detaches from one end of the rack, making it the perfect bathroom device. I want one NOW!

Real Life Mario Kart!!

Real Life Mario Kart!!

We’ve all dreamt about shooting blue shells at the car in front of us and dropping banana peels to screw up traffic during rush hour! I know I have. For now we’ll have to keep dreaming, but at least we can take some of our road-rage out on this bad@$$ hybrid one-seater recreational vehicle that’s reminiscent of one very familiar race-kart.

Becoming X

Becoming X

A deserving winner of the 2011 red dot design concept award, the X Plus table was conceived as a functional sculpture for contemporary living spaces. To achieve the shape, three triangular areas are cut from a single sheet of stainless steel, the sheet is bent into form and the two end points are welded together. The result is a modular object composed of two X shapes that works independently or arranged in a series. In a variety of hues and finishes, the table is adaptable to almost any motif.

The Joy of Winning!

The Joy of Winning!

Jonathan Ive says that a designer needs to “solve a problem in a way that acknowledges its context.” Given that the iPad is as perfect as a tablet can get, it does have some limitations when it comes to creative usage. To address this, the team at Adonit came up with not one but two award winning (2012 iF Product Design) solutions: The Writer Bluetooth Keyboard & Folio and Jot Capacitive Touch Stylus. With a goal to design products that will empower users to create a more vibrant world, we think their story is inspirational!

Smartphone is Super Flexi!

Smartphone is Super Flexi!

When it comes to concept design and exploring the possibilities of user experiences, we have seen some radical thinking come across like a lightning bolt. Fine examples are the Bento Box Laptop and the Napkin PC. This time around we are looking at a smartphone that serenades as a lampshade (charging cradle) when not in use. The design explores the usage of flexible LED screen to the hilt. Moreover the screen is a tad bit exaggerated to mimic a curvy tablet. So are we heading to an era of overstated phones that are understated tablets? Looks like we are!

Man Meets Machine

Man Meets Machine

Tusk may be a little ahead of its time, but still utilitarian at its core. With a little help from some rotary dynamos, rectifiers and linear regulators, the Tusk adapter harvests the energy expelled by the user’s regular walking cycle and redirects the energy to any portable device, making the user, in essence, the battery and charger at once.

Pure Recycling

Pure Recycling

Designer Maro has thought of everything with this design. The Vita Recycle Bin uses color, shape, & texture to encourage users to divide their waste properly. The removable internal container system eliminates the use of plastic bags as well as the need to mobilize the entire container. Proportions are modeled not only for visual & material minimalism, but also to suit users who would otherwise have trouble reaching the opening. Flat-pack ready & easy to assemble/disassemble, the Vita has got all the bases covered.

Talk About Tea Fishing and Cans!

Talk About Tea Fishing and Cans!

I confess that I have a thing for quirky everyday items. On first glance they may seem unnecessary and frivolous but if you dig deeper, you cultivate the fine art of design appreciation. I have picked four of my favorite from the Yanko Design Store, and I am sure you will agree that all four are surefire hit as conversation starters!
