No Stiff Helmet For My Head Please

No Stiff Helmet For My Head Please

I don’t blame the woman in this pic for looking so stiff coz I wouldn’t know how to react to this kitsch helmet. Made from textile instead of rigid materials, the “TopUp Head Protection” for cyclists and walkers is an exploration of the honeycomb pattern and device a protective gear for the head. The brief was to design a gear that was is light and compact and that could deal with minor bumps and falls. The honeycomb was an obvious choice for its impact resistance and shock absorption qualities.

Glaming Up The Fruit Bag

Glaming Up The Fruit Bag

A shopping bag is a bag and nothing more, unless you peak it up with some special effects. Regenesi’s Fruit Bag’s claim to fame is the ingenious use of reclaimed leather, specially sourced from Salamander. The smooth marriage of Italian flamboyance and Japanese practicality is evident in the characteristics of the shopper. Comfortable handles that sit easy on the shoulders and a series of internal pockets render it functional and secure.

King of the Paper Ring

King of the Paper Ring

How pretty a princess you will be! Or prince! Or both! A set of rings, all made of basically what you’d call “regular” paper, each one cut out (by you), rolled or folded, and worn monthly (or daily, depending on how rough you are.) Each flower ring corresponds with a month out of the year. There are two sets: one birthday set, and one “yearly” set. Fancy!

Perfect Backpack Support

Perfect Backpack Support

Nearly infinitely adjustable (overstated by only a little bit) back support for the backpacking experience you’ll love to love. It takes either a very dedicated or very rich or very sponsored designer to spend a giant amount of time on one component of a larger product. What Jacob Howell has done here is to focus not on the carrying capabilities of the pack, but ability of that back to rest as nicely as possible on the back of the carrier.

Time Is So Orbital

Time Is So Orbital

It’s a good thing you learnt about planets in school; otherwise this Torbit Time-Orbit Watch Concept would have gone over your head. Apparently its been totally inspired by the fascinating movents of planets in their orbit. “The digital numbers on the annular panel display indicates time while moving clockwise around the circumference of the display; also corresponding to the position of where the hands on a traditional watch would have been.” For me, it’s just a cool looking watch that craves for a SWATCH branding.

Travel Bag-buggy

Travel Bag-buggy

I’m a veteran when it comes to traveling with kids and I know the nightmarish times I went through every time I ventured out. Cranky, jet lagged babies + luggage management is horrid combo. Try pushing a buggy and pulling your trolley bag at the same time! Dreadful! Good folks at Castiglione Morelli have an ingenious idea with their Samsonite Convertible Trolley Stroller Bag. A specialized compartment holds in a folded fabric, which when pulled out, stretches over the pull-out metallic frame; thus resulting in a child seat. Very Convenient.

Indestructible Sunglasses

Indestructible Sunglasses

Don’t mistake the “Fisk” for some pair of pimp glasses. These aren’t flashy. They aren’t gonna make eyes explode with envy. They’re gonna fit perfect and they’re gonna last. Whatchu watchu want? The first of two major features is the Global Fit adjustable nose bridge. Soft low porosity silicone over structural nylon adjustable to your strange nose. Then there’s the Ratchet Hinge. The hinge is made of surgical stainless steel and built with a Metal Injection Molding process for unbreakableness. Not to be left on your dashboard.

Vegan Leather? Matt & Nat Archive Bag Review

Vegan Leather? Matt & Nat Archive Bag Review

In my never ending quest for the perfect laptop bag, I stumbled across a French Canadian company called Matt & Nat who have an entire line of soft goods but it was their Archive bag that caught my eye. It’s all vegan leather which is an oxymoron so just think of it as faux leather - really good faux leather. Hit the jump for me review.

Cutie Little Booties!

Cutie Little Booties!

This is the senior thesis of Industrial Design major Chris Padilla. Chris goes to school at Virginia Tech, and he’s interested in the shoes of little people. Toddlers! The project aims to “promote natural, healthy foot development for toddlers learning how to walk.” The inside is a super minimal inner bootie house-shoe “for safe, “barefoot” walking. The inside is hard as dragon scales.

Get Touchy Feely With Time

Get Touchy Feely With Time

Although the blind will not be able to appreciate the simplistic style of Feel the Time, the practical approach of the design will be well received. The watch face features rotating discs with a tangible nub on each. Feeling the nub helps the blind read the time. Three−dimensional rings distinguish the discs from each other and a flexible membrane protects the face of the watch. A break at the 12’O Clock position acts as the guide for feeling the time accurately. Sight or no sight, the watch will look neat on any wrist.

Two Wild and Crazy Bracelets

Two Wild and Crazy Bracelets

I tell you: me and my brother, we know how to get the ladies. We just talked to Ben Greene about his boss tactic for getting matched up. Really! You put the band on, right on, on your hand, and you load up all your infos like about your love for mustard and whatnot. From there, it’s a synch! You just pick “teaser” or “seeker” (my brother and I are always the hip and together seekers) and you’re on your way! Really! I mean it! We put them on when we got in!

Different Faces

Different Faces

The UNI watch has a customizable digital face. You can choose fonts, colors, backgrounds and hand designs with just a few clicks in the included software. It’s made of that weird soft touch plastic. Something about that texture keeps me petting it over and over. Even tho the pictures don’t show it very well, the display is a full color OLED. A built-in accelerometer turns the display on only when your wrist turns and the mini-USB port makes it easy to connect to your computer.
