A New Kind of Aluminum Can
106,000 aluminum cans are discarded every 30 seconds in the United States. Efforts to recycle the mounting heaps have met with mild success so Haoshi Studio in cooperation with PLA Studio have created a new kind of can called TIN CAN. It’s made of PLA yet it’s fully insulated and can be heated up to 110ºF. It even squishes like an aluminum can except it’s 100% organic and biodegradable.

Would the drink still taste the same as the metal of an ordinary drinks can keeps the fizz and taste. Where it says about America having mild success in recycling aluminium. That's where this idea wouldn't do well worldwide as if that's true then it's only America that's having issues with it as every other country in the world recycles it just fine. It's a brilliant idea but I would change it from a drinks can to another food or drinks item like plastic bottles as there's no problem with aluminium cans being reused.

The issue with PLA is that for it to be biodegradable, as described, it needs to be exposed to conditions that are found in a compost – around 140 degrees and damp. Because most people don't have a compost it becomes a problem of infrastructure. Without a composting infrastructure in place PLA is no better than a PE or PET.
