Metronomie Concept

Unfortunately I don’t get to take the subway to work every day. Even though it sounds like fun I’m sure seeing the same irregular patterned seats and bad advertisements everyday would eventually become another humdrum activity.  Yves Lombardet’s idea is to take the monotony and repetition out of riding the metro. Metronomie features a simple interior that uses variable themes and a modular standard coupling system that allows flexible seating and visual stimuli arrangements for a customized feel from car to car.

Designer: Yves Lombardet

That is a subway where I would love to travel. Why an earth are current trains so boring and bland?

The coupled seating is a bad arrangement for the tube, would create havoc! Having advertising hoarding's down the middle of the carriage can be both positive and negative. Could create an extra obstacle for passengers to get past on exiting, however, could also do well to segregate standing passengers and create more fluidity during peak times. The advertising hoarding's at the periphery of carriages is just an ineffective use of space.

  • @jda Thanks for your comment, everything is good to make the concept progress ! This concept needs adjustments, you're right.
If it has any chances to be produced one day, it will need to be rethought !

Creio que não funciona Amalhue, sou designer e segundo alguns estudos feitos, posso afirmar que a usabilidade está ruim, iluminação muito escura para um metrô e letras pequenas no painel, impossibilitando a leitura a certas distâncias…muito curtas até…

      • Actually it's just a concept Ronald, built on the idea of the repetition. And as every concept, it's done to be rethought 😉
Thanks for your comment, which help to improve Metronomie if it's produced one day !

I like this one! We do have poems on the sub, trains and buses where I live, and that is a good way to relax and think of something completly else. Nice colors on the seats as well, and good rendering skills! A good concept, and I would like to see some of your research :)

Still, I can see a bunch of negative comments.. Is it that hard to say something nice? I wonder if the negative people have anything to show at all. Shame shame..

everyone knows that the biggest problem about trains is space constraints. and this train doesn't even care about that. the bare minimum on a train is a comfortable ride aka seats…

  • Peter says:

Looks like the spacious interior and clean lines are mainly due to the fact that the designer completely forgot about heating/ventilation/airco. If you look at the outside view as you see the roof is only a few centimeters thick. Also I wonder if they have thought about vibration control which usually is a big issue with such extremely large windows. And how do they clean the inside of the windows behind the seats?

The idea behind public transportation is to move as many people in a single vehicle as possible. There's lots of wasted space here.

I like the idea. But you've obviously never rode the line 4 metro in paris. effective transportation requires packing as many people as you can at one point. people dont like waiting for the next train. no need to waste space inside the car. For some subways, big windows would be nice, but remember, you're underground.

Although it's a really nice idea, I would think that the fare for this concept metro would probably be more than many of the regular metro riders would be willing to pay so that it would be hard to find someone to invest in it.
