Fun with Wide Angle Views

Fun with Wide Angle Views

I’m a big fan of fisheye distortion, it’s more visually interesting, tells more about the context of a picture, and it’s so very useful 3d rendering. This “Fun” camera by Jian Guan comes equipped with a 16 mm lens, also mirrored for those great shots of yourself while holding the camera as far away as possible. Taking formal cues from a magnifying glass may seem unnecessary, but I think it does a great job of connecting the function to the shape.

This Cheese is Not For You!

This Cheese is Not For You!

Is your roommate Elizabeth always using your computer because she didn’t have the decency to buy her own? Does it just grind your gears when your pal Chase decides to play his favorite youtube on your clock? What about when your grandmother Milma uses your CPU for a sled in the wintertime? For two out of every three every-day situations, there’s Tino’s laptop Finger Trap.

Voice Stick

Voice Stick

Braille is still the standard when it comes to helping the visually impaired read. Unfortunately translating text into braille is costly and time consuming thus the disproportionate number of braille books. Voice Stick is an advance optical character recognition scanner designed to make all books available to the visually impaired.

A Silent Alarm Clock

A Silent Alarm Clock

Alarm clocks usually jolt us awake leading us to reach for the almighty snooze button. Silence is a conceptual alarm clock that allows you to program multiple alarms and wakes you without any sound. Each person wears a wireless rubber ring with an integrated vibration device that generates a tactile alarm. The snooze function is engaged by shaking your hand. However, each successive time you want to snooze, more movement is required, making sure you get to work on time.

Vroom Vroom Beep Beep!

Vroom Vroom Beep Beep!

Who says I can’t play with my electronics! Move To The Radio shoves a radio inside a traditional wood block car toy. The volume is controlled by the wheels so if you want to turn it up, you gotta push the car along, purse your lips, and make the VROOM VROOM sound! Okay that last bit is optional but if you’re gonna play, go all the way.

Stick Your Dongle in this Asterisk

Stick Your Dongle in this Asterisk

USB hubs come in all shapes and sizes, so why not one of the most ubiquitous shapes in typography? The asterisk’s name is derived from the Latin for Star and this design is certainly the star of the USB lot. Designed by Joel Escalona, the “Asterisco Hub” is like the perfect party, one male to four females connections.

Check Me Out

Check Me Out

The Motorola Sparrow was conceived to provide retail stores with a mobile point of sale device to solve increased service demands from consumers while decentralizing the check out point, i.e. pay for it and get out as fast as you can. It combines a scanner, point of sale (POS) system, RFID, communication and credit card reading capabilities into one mobile device.

With the Lisco USB Snake by Laurent Hongisto, just slap the USB snake on your wrist and not only will you look fashionable, but you will also never have to go searching for your USB cable again.

The Softer Side of Hard Drives

The Softer Side of Hard Drives

Designing electronic gadgets specifically for women has always seemed like either an insult to their sensibilities or simple pink pandering. Either way, you run the risk of a ton of pink back stock or pissing them off. My advice, design gadgets for humans. Except when it is done to the high degree of slickness as this “Costume” Samsung 2.5″ Hard Drive by Joongoo Lee.

Mixed Music Medium

Mixed Music Medium

Making a mixed tape for someone you fancied was my generations version of writing poetry or a love letter. Not only did we focus on selecting just the right tracks to include and try to time it to the second, we also focused hours of creative energy in illustrating the mix tape cover with heart felt doodles and clever visual references.
