When Efficient is an Understatement

When Efficient is an Understatement

The NTNU student team’s entry for the Shell Eco Marathon can travel nearly 1000 miles on the equivalent energy of just one liter of gas! How is that even possible?! The answer is with a calculated blend of electric battery tech and ultra-lightweight materials. Its monocoque shell is constructed around a carbon fiber frame, helping the vehicle to weigh in at an unbelievable 154 pounds! The final design is an ideal fusion between aerodynamics, lightness and contemporary car design. Watch it come to life —>

Phantom of the marina - Rolls-Royce inspired yacht

Phantom of the marina – Rolls-Royce inspired yacht

Rolls-Royce and Yachts. That is how high rollers roll on both Terra firma and Aqua fluida. So why not blend em both into a single entity to make a splash (quite literally) in the luxury scene? That is what Stefan Munro has attempted with his Rolls Royce 450EX yacht concept. With a 14.5m length, the 450EX is intended as a daytime luxury cruiser with the prestige of the luxury marque.

The Ultimate Off-Road Racer

The Ultimate Off-Road Racer

The Duality concept vehicle ambitiously attempts to blur the lines between off-road SUV and race car. But how does it harmonize these extremes? The answer lies in its four dual purpose tires and articulated suspension, both of which transition between 2 modes in the flick of a switch. See how it works —>

Awesomely Autonomous Auto

Awesomely Autonomous Auto

The Uniblock automated vehicle is actually a modular 3-cars-in-1! The clever design splits up to tackle different scenarios. In single car mode, it’s beneficial for short distances or using narrow roads. Expanded to two or three, Uniblock becomes the perfect caravan for making long journeys on the wider open road. Best of all, it will drive itself so you can sit back and relax inside the comfy reconfigurable cabin!

Highly Evolved Transport

Highly Evolved Transport

The BMW Honeycomb concept’s aim is not to reinvent the automobile, rather, it’s to entirely reshape the way we think about urban transportation! Inspired by the socially evolved bee, the system works as a colony of well-organized vehicles that communicate with each other and with users to get people where they need to be. When a user books one of the autonomous cars from their smartphone, it leaves the hub… picks them up… delivers them… and either returns to charge or starts on a new mission!

Maserati in the Raw

Maserati in the Raw

The Maserati “LaMaserati” is a concept flagship hyper car based around the LaFerrari platform. Utilizing the same V12 engine (but retuned with the KERS system removed to save weight), LaMaserati is designed to be the purest expression of the brand’s core values: elegant styling, striking presence and performance finesse.

BMW R90R - A Classic Revived

BMW R90R – A Classic Revived

I have often felt that most of the present day motorcycles are over designed. The designers’ attempts at aggressive form language usually results in the rides ending up with a liberal dose of visual clutter and makes me crave to see the honest and clean design style of café racers back on the road. And exactly for this reason, transportation designer Kévin Biolluz’s reinterpretation of the iconic cafe racer BMW R90S on its 40th birthday is interesting.

Split and Go

Split and Go

I’m in the market for a new car and am facing this very dilemma! I want something smaller and more efficient for zipping around the city than my slow, gas-guzzling SUV. But I can’t live without the extra space when I need it! If only I could have both…. The Split&Go concept was born of this very idea! It’s a conventional van that splits to turn into a two-seater small car for urban use. Perfect for everything from road trips to running errands!

The Power of Cross X

The Power of Cross X

The Cross X is a low-cost hybrid bicycle designed for the rapidly urbanizing countries. It hopes to be that mode of transport, which is cost-effective, traffic beating and personal. Its potential in two contexts – medical emergencies and large campuses; I’m thinking campuses like Apple or Google, perhaps!

The T Ride with iPhone

The T Ride with iPhone

Daily commute with the T-Scooter looks to be a dream. The reason why I say this is that it hooks up a smartphone and updates the rider on the road conditions ahead. Basically it is an electric moped that gives you an intelligent driving experience. The smartphone fits into a handlebar socket and the pre-installed application establishes a data connection with the wireless camera at the rear of the saddle. In essence you get a superior riding experience.

A top 10 finalist in the 2014 Michelin Challenge Design, the Twinway is an exploration in vehicle autonomy & a perfect example of how this new tech allows vehicles to become an extension of the users lifestyle while retaining the experience of driving pleasure. In autonomous mode, passengers can talk face-to-face, play games, surf the web, or simply enjoy the scenery from the comfort of the cabin. An amalgamation of safety features including LiDAR ground topology radar & 360 degree object detection lets users rest at ease & enjoy the ride.

Lambo Logic

Lambo Logic

The Lamborghini design language seems to get wilder and wilder with each new release which is why it’s no surprise they attract party animals more often than businessmen (i.e. Justin Bieber). Some of us, however, are purists when it comes to the brand and think back fondly to the subtler days of the Diablo and Countach. For us, the Querderro is a reminder of why we started liking the Golden Bull to begin with.
