Japanese Wooden Sandal Update

Japanese Wooden Sandal Update

They don’t have rockets, they don’t transform into anything, and no, they do not have ice skates pop out the bottom of them.* What they DO have is a couple lovely innovations that designer Silvialy Tjhin was ever-so-thoughtful to include. Silvialy Tjhin created these in a class whilst at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where in a Methods & Materials class, was going through a lesson on woodworking machines, and Tjhin, being an ever-so-clever utilitarian, created a pair of shoes.

Three Dimensional Wrist Communicator

Three Dimensional Wrist Communicator

It’s that time again. It’s time for the Mac. The dude who keeps coming hard with the strangest, wildest, most fantastically cool looking conceptual designs on such a regular basis that I can’t believe he doesn’t already work for a super secret design corporation run by time traveling aliens from outer space. Wait. I’m getting a message from Mac. He can see what I’m typing and is telling me to hush up! Oh jeez! Better just talk about this new design – “Dew”, it’s a conceptual mobile communication device that works in three dimensional projection space.

Solar Energy, Band-Aids and The iPad

Solar Energy, Band-Aids and The iPad

Those kooky but fun Korean design gurus are at it again. You’d be surprised how hefty the iPad is and that smooth surface is just begging to slip out of sweaty hands so the Band are band-aids you stick all over the back of the iPad to create traction. A little too kooky for ya? How about the Solar Panel Bag – yes a backpack with solar cells arranged into Steve Jobs’ favorite fruit. Let the whole world know you’re an Apple fan.

Obsession With Sputnik!

Obsession With Sputnik!

Sputnik on Yanko Design has a deeper meaning than just the space satellite. Hit the “Sputnik” button and you’ll find two lamps and a projector already featured here. This time around our quest for the name takes us to the doors of Kibardindesign Studio, who have designed the namesake watch. Giving a new look to the classic digital watch, this funky version allows you to accessorize in a myriad of hues. Fancy one of these? You’re in luck coz they are open for pre-orders!

Danger Alert Enabler

Danger Alert Enabler

A view of the ambient noise is what this device hopes to give people with less than a perfect sense of hearing. The fashionable bit of the Danger Alert Enabler, is the wristband, but it also comes with a “micro device.” The way these two bits work together is: sound goes in one, comes out the other. But as the micro device, which sits on your belt, hears sound, it interprets it and translates it to a corresponding pictogram and in some cases, a vibration for warning.

Charm A Way To Remind A Day

Charm A Way To Remind A Day

Here’s something novel. If you have problems remembering what all needs to be done today, never mind making a to-do list. Just slap on a couple charms and walk out the door. See, the Charming Reminder is a chain with 9 charms each corresponding to some common events. I’m not sure an umbrella, newspaper, telephone, key, letter, plug, shoe, present, and a basket are enough to rep. your daily life, but if it is, might I suggest some spontaneity?

Up and Up Watch

Up and Up Watch

The watch you’re about to see right here is called the “Ever Increasing Watch” and it’s designed by none other than the fabulous crew at EleeNo. You know what kind of world we live in. One where you’ve got some sort of phone or computer device with you at all times. Some sort of object with you constantly that’ll give you the time of day whenever you want it. So what’s the point of a wrist watch? Again I say, for the love of the game! In honor of the simplicity offered in the readout on your cellphone, EleeNo offers this watch to engage!

I Carry My Own Streetlights

I Carry My Own Streetlights

In this day and age of multi-functional lifestyles how can we expect fashion to be far behind? Wouldn’t it be tacky for a pair of socks to simply be a garment? We need to rev it up a little, maybe add kinetic theory to it and a pair of bulbs and make it headlights for our feet. Go jogging in the dark or sizzle the Milan Ramps, but the moral of the story is to “Keep on running…baby….oooo…yeah!

Not that Kind of Avatar Watch

Not that Kind of Avatar Watch

The timepiece in this post is called the “Avatar 1259B Watch.” It’s got nothing to do with the movie, but it’s no less epic. Really! You’ll have the entire world at your beckoning call when you grace their vision with this devastatingly amazing looking arm-clock. Made by the same people as what I like to call the Killer Robot Death Watch, this Avatar watch is just as metal, just as robotic, just as color bleeper intensive.

It’s Zip Up Time

It’s Zip Up Time

The Zipper Bracelet Watch is just that, of course there is no watch face; otherwise why would it be here on YD! This concept is a wide leather bracelet where the zips actually display the current time when you hit the central buttons on the wrist. Each zip displays a digit, which you are supposed to combine together to read the time. Sounds confusing right now, but hit the jump to see what I mean. Definitely easier than a Tokyo Flash!

Killer Robot Death Watch

Killer Robot Death Watch

Actually no death. None. Unless you mean the death of terrible wrist watches because this one completely DESTROYS them all! Is that what you mean? Well good! This is the “Robot 1259C Watch” and it’s going to make your arm so much more fantastic looking. Also you’ll be able to read time in such a hardcore manner that your brain might explode out of the top of your robotic head. Beware! It takes a moment to learn, a lifetime to master the awesomeness of ownership!

Move Over Iron Man

Move Over Iron Man

I just watched Iron Man 2 this weekend so it seems fitting to write about the idea of body enhancements. The Activation Suit is designed with women in mind, prepping them for the ultimate work out while minimizing fatigue and injury. The suit electronically stimulates muscle groups to relax, “stretch”, and intensify work outs. The entire surface is touch activated enabling targeted training. And of course no bionic woman would be complete without the ability to record and analyze their regimen.

5 Zaras Tall

5 Zaras Tall

Welcome to the flagship store “Zara” of the Inditex Group, a group known for several brands of fabulous fashion clothing.* What this post is about is the installation they’ve got sitting in from of their Milan store. It’s five meters tall. It’s white, colorful, and magnificent. AND it’s designed by UNStudio, a group Yanko is DEFINITELY guilty of loving for their excellence in architecture. Behold this mighty column!
