Eames Inspired Prosthetic Leg
Those of you plugged into the post modern scene know the name Eames. The duo that brought us molded plywood in every shape and form is aped left and right by today’s designers. That aesthetic could be translated into almost anything as demonstrated by designer Joanna M. Hawley and her Prosthetic Leg concept.
Most prosthethics are cumbersome looking, ugly, and lack humanity. This new leg starts by a 3D laser scan to generate a point cloud from which data is used to create an exact replica, only mirrored. The final product is a combination of art and science designed to function and inspire.
Designer: Joanna M. Hawley

from a medical perspective, this limb is very appealing. very aesthetic and pleasing to the eye of the young amputee faced with having to select a prosthesis.

Actually, the Eames designed some some orthopedic stuff in plywood. Here´s a picture of me trying one of those designed for WWII, a collectors item now:

so is he really wearing a prototype of the prosthetic or is it a model and cgi ?
Joanna Hawley says
Hi Redwork-
That is actually my partner for the project. He has both of his legs, but we modeled the leg using Rhino and then photoshopped it onto his leg. We felt that portraying the leg in context was the best way to really convey the message.
