Fold-a-boat is a seamless, hard shell, folding boat made from one single sheet of plastic. The objective is to create an accessible flat-pack leisure boat designed for flat water environments. The 2.5m vessel can be folded and packed into a small 150cm x 60cm parcel. Someone call IKEA! The product targets an outdoor activity market; water lovers, campers as well as potential boat owners. A  secondary market could be applications for NGO’s responding quickly to natural disasters.

Designers: Arno Mathies & Max Frommeld

I dont see how it would fold. The boat looks like solid plastic to me not something which can be folded. And wouldnt the boat develop weaknesses along the line of folding and lose its waterproofness along these lines. Much like with umbrellas?

  • Aliza says:

    Where can I buy this?

  • Takeshi says:

I think it is somehow like a flat pack….from the boat shape can be unfold to a flat surface….. but the flexibility is been limited as it show with hard plastic material.

  • Bartek says:

I have the same question. How can order it?

  • Grey says:

If the folding doesn’t harm the structure, then this is PURE GENIUS!! This would sell!

  • Matt says:

In the late 90´s an american company named “Portabote”, which is still working created a real folding one.

  • My partner and I absolutely love your blog and find most
of your post’s to be precisely what I’m looking for. Does one offer guest writers to write content
available for you? I wouldn’t mind publishing a post or elaborating
on a lot of the subjects you write in relation to here.

    Again, awesome blog!
