Sony gets a Sidekick
I said it before and I’ll say it again; design mash-ups are fun. Take this latest concept by Samuel Lau. He has blended together a Sidekick Mobile phone with a PSP Slim. Why? Because he can. Looks pretty decent and features a 3.2 megapixel cam round back, full frontal webcam action and the most notable aspect. a slide-up QWERTY keyboard! I say while we are at it, why not add motion sensors, a touch screen and geo-tracking to help find and connect with other PSPers. And I want $50,000 in dimes, a get-away car and the letter M stricken from the English alphabet. You hear me SONY!?

Dude, you need to read up on intellectual property and patent protection — you are doing everything backwards! By publicly disclosing your ‘proprietary’ idea without proper minimal protection, you have lost all proprietary rights. Get it?

simple for the us just to a patent search by going to uspto.gov and doing a search. This is good pratic as you will see all the stuff allready out there. Speficicaly your infringing on the flip concept (motorola possiably others) and sony’s controller. Its a huge subject, when I consult on this sort of stuff I charge 10k (usd) up front at a rate of 3k a day, and it generaly takes a week. Good luck kid, use the publicy well but also take the comments both good and bad to heart for the next go round.

I swear i absolutely love this idea, and i looooooooove cell phones and video games. I’m obsessed with cell phones and i swear i would be the first to buy this. This is the most incredible cell phone i have ever seen. i have the newest sidekick slide and i love psp. To have both combined would be so incredible.

One more thing. The video is painful to watch : it needs to be 80% shorter. Nothing much happens except for my own emotional pain. In fact, I feel asleep twice — and then woke up with suicidal thoughts.

Ok, you copied the LCD onto a seperate layer and stuck a keyboard underneath. The keyboard doesn’t look inset enough. How about a top view, a left and right side view, a top view when open, a left and right side view when open, and a back view when open?

Hmm. I’m pretty sure Sony would recognize that keyboard from the Vaio UX Micro PC series they designed.

The keyboard looks like it’ll be a complete pain in the arse to type on. Ergonomics seem to have gone out the window.

Contrary to many comments, this is not an amazing idea. It’s also naive and insulting to think that Sony 1) has not thought of it
2) will be blown away by your idea
3) will want to pay you for a 15 minute photoshop job.

If you could fit more letters in a smaller space and it a tablet in there for a stylus you COULD have something here. Right now I’m not that enthusiastic about my PSP (which has a nice layer of DUST on it) to even think about getting another one just for that feature alone.
But a stylus to compete with the DS could possibly get me to come out of pocket.

also, invest (*cough* or steal) a 3D program… I was doing things like that in photoshop/image ready with a photo of a Sega Game Gear back in 97 when I was in 10th grade, out of boredom. A slow slide up isn’t going to be any one interested I don’t think.
