You can’t get too tipsy on this: the “Cheers” personal mobile device. It’s powered by an efficient, maybe even energy-saving Alcohol-cell. Looks mighty like a container of the whisky, doesn’t it? Well it’s at least half as fun! What a mighty little device this fellow is! That cap on top of the device not only locks the cell inside, it’s a function switch as well. Kind of like a “wheel” if you will. Do you party?

Ardent fans know that YD rarely covers real-live phones and lets the tech sites do the honors. On the rare occasions that we do cover them, it’s coz we try and bring out a different angle to the phone, like the design angle. I had the opportunity to interact with the Philips X810 designer Trent Stoddard and understand his sensibilities in designing this phone. The task at hand was to design a phone for the Chinese market, for a user who needed a large range of functions (like handwriting recognition) plus reflect luxury and individuality.

I’m not here to give you the advantages of Magnet Therapy, but to tell you about the new Magnet Liteon Phone designed by Tryi Yeh. He’s decided to use the advantages of Solar panel cells for powering the phone and a spacious OLED screen. Apparently the magnet on the cell phone allows user to change the structure of panel as they want. I particularly fancy the game and media mode, coz that’s what I use my mobile phone the most for!

Yay! It’s been awhile since we’ve posted a mobile phone concept that promises to do everything under the sun in the thinnest form factor. I was getting withdrawal symptoms. The Mobile Script phone explores what functions any contemporary mobile device should have; internet access, documents on the go, games, communication, and mobility.

The B-Touch mobile phone takes the iPhone touchscreen revolution a step ahead by incorporating innovate features to make a touchscreen cellphone for the blind. Limitation of senses does not hinder the sensitivity of this phone coz it combines technologies of blind-touch screen (Braille), voice systems and programs to function as regular phone, navi-system, book reader and object recognizer. Are you over the iPhone 3G S and Palm Pre? Good, coz I got to get you prepared for the future. In ten years from now, there probably will be no war amongst manufacturers with regards to display; coz there simply will be NONE! Holograms will replace the screens! Trou Hologram Mobile Phone relies totally on 3D holograms being projected in the vacant display area. Tiny projectors line the inner surface of the hollow and bring to life the many aspects of the technology. Imagine seeing 3D maps of a particular area or your girlfriend’s hologram when she calls!

Don’t get so confused, the Kambala is a mobile phone that transforms to a earphone as well. Pop the center piece and the earpiece clip pings out; clip this to your ear, and you got a phone-earphone! Multilayered Polymer which hosts all the electronic components is used in its construction. A continuous flexi-screen with plenty of sensors makeup the surface and it has the ability to transmit the image on the inside of the phone to the outside. It even does a chameleon act by blending in with your skin tone when you clip it to your ear.

Here’s a phone that’s intuitive, functional and sleek; people let’s scrutinize the Easter Moai. It wouldn’t be a futuristic phone, if it didn’t have a touchscreen LCD! For convenience, all the function keys are reserved to the slant edge, which I think is brilliant. The face has just the essentials slated to the corner edge, giving the much needed screen-space that most people demand these days. It sits pretty, on a slanted dock for recharging. And when it’s parked there, the phone doubles up as a music player with bombastic speakers.

Really, why would I want this MID (Mobile Internet Device) over the current iPhone I use? Lord! I know you’re up to your neck with Apple banging, so for a change let’s compare it to an LG Arena, Samsung I7500 or even BlackBerry Storm 2. Where does this MID score over the rest of these Internet efficient phones? Two places: Prime Real Estate i.e. a three screen setup that opens to 210 x 210 mm and an Integrated Stand.

Concepts and Apple don’t go hand in hand, however that hasn’t deterred designers from conjuring up iterations to challenge the stalwart. The latest challenge is aimed at disturbing the iPhone mania on three simple grounds; an appealing façade, discreet buttons and ample screen. The “Sony Black Tribute” that we see here, woos you with its ultra-wide screen and hot looks. Finished in aluminum with a satin touch; this phone scores well in the looks department. Unfortunately there are no tech-specs (apart from 3.2 mp cam) that we can boast about.

This SMS generation has come out with many ways to convey emotions across the waves: LOL ROTFL, U get d drift? Since technology is about convenience, how about a phone that texts your emotional status without much fuss? The point in favor of the “Icon Phone” is the simplistic gesture-based input. SMS addicts often complain of Text Messaging Syndrome; however the pen-styled input application will probably take care of this complaint!

Everyone who knows me knows that I’m on the lookout for a new mobile phone. Now before you try convincing me about the Apple Pie, I’ve decided to humor one of my designer pals (perks of being at YD) to come up with something special for me. He’s kitsch-ed up this awesome looking piece which he calls the MID. It’s a mobile internet device specially designed for internet browsing from anywhere. Ah the blogger in me is impressed!

For the ignorant lot, LOHAS is Lifestyles of Health & Sustainability and a way of life for one out of every six Americans. I’m not faffing about this, but LOHAS consumers shop for products based on their values and world view, reflecting their desire for healthier and more sustainable lives. Catering to this crowd is the Aqua Liquid cellphone that uses liquid fuel cells technology in the name of eco-friendliness; although this lowers the efficiency of the phone.
