Virus Beware, The Spuit Is Here

There are two sides to a coin, on one side we have groovy gadgets and on the other we have hidden malware and virus to spoil our fun. To combat it we resort to many protective gears and a futuristic attempt is the Virus Spuit. This handy vaccine device is capable of detecting and removing virus in devices like a Portable Hard Disk. It even features the intuitive action of a syringe that draws in or releases liquid, to extract the malicious content.

Virus Spuit is a 2010 Red Dot Concept Design winning entry.

A wonderful idea, except for two problems: First, the technology to do this doesn’t exist. Second, there already exists a different technology that does the same thing better, namely antivirus software. Even if the technology to do this existed, it would be first integrated into the existing technology, namely antivirus software, and the result would be easier to use, more convenient, and more user friendly then this.

Antivirus software isn't portable. What about a friend who doesn't have software? Or a company computer? Each one may have the risk of infecting your computer, and it's much easier to connect the spuit to your USB and let it do the work for you when you come back home.

As far as i can tell this should work just fine. You would need a portable device like a PMP with usb connectivity and you could modify its software to use an anti-virus rather than a media player. The aesthetics of course are eye-candy and a major bonus. Great idea, although as one can just use an anti-virus on a regular PC, it is difficult to see a large market for this…
