Coin Sized iPod by Jlennon
Let’s face it – in the digital world, size does matter. We like our devices small, but who wants to compromise their sound With the new iPod xs, we’ve compressed all of the sound that you could ever ask for in a package that you have to see – and hear – to believe. Your sound at your fingertips. Weighing in almost half an ounce, and measuring at only a little more than a quarter, the iPod xs is small enough to fit in your pocket, but it is stylish enough to fit with your music.

Jeez – I have a hard time keeping track of my keys. I shudder to think of the many & varied ways this iPod will get lost. I love the idea, though.

The scale is all messed up. You’re trying to tell me a headphone jack is the same thickness as a coin? Get real. I could sit here all day and design crap that isn’t plausible but that would make me a crap designer. Plus, Greenwink is right – there is a point at which stuff becomes too small. You’ve shown us what happens when you go beyond that.
guesty says
no its not as thick as just a coin its diameter is the size of a coin obv it wold be thicker to accomidate the headphone jack
Joe says
It is not specified that the iPod would be the same width as a quarter.
Dan says
… The photo clearly shows a side by side comparison that this iPod XS is roughly the same size in diameter (length/width) as a quarter. The only difference is that it has to be thicker to accommodate the headphone jack.

Also I’d like to know what resolution that screen is – 50px by 50px perhaps?
Again – get real.

I dono, u’d probably be surprised though, ‘OLED’ screens are prety amazing now, look them up on google, theres even a few youtube videos

Method of generating ideas:
Step one
Find successful technology or product
Step Two
Disregard all practical links to reality in the form of producible tech and ergonomics.
Step Three
Shrink it to the point of absurdity
While the headphone jack would fit in, at 3.5 mm (sorry luke
) you would then not be able to have a screen, battery or buttons over 0…. well, 0.0mm, as a wall thickness of 0.3 would be silly too
sorry, make a prototype, do some technical drawings, and then maybe you will get what we are saying
Dennijr says
OLED screens are pretty much as thick as a peice of paper and you think that a peice of paper couldnt fit in? think of it this way, the buttons take up a grand total of 1 mm, the screen takes up annother mm, the board inside then has 2mm of space, which actually makes sence, it could have a rechargable battery built into the internal board, and maybe a mini usb plug to connect to the computer (recharging and data transfer). the wall thickness could be whatever you wanted it to be really, ive taken apart usb 4-1 converters where the case is uber thin but fit directly onto the internal board, if you think ‘outside the box’, there is a chance that it is possible…
Dan says
Yeah, you dont even have to factor in a USB port. The current iPod Shuffles use the headphone jack for data transfer, and im pretty sure it charges that way too since it has no other ports. And plus, if you REALLY need to, you can always add on an extra millimeter or so… its already so small right?
shadowwolf says
I think it would need to be a bit thicker, or maybe closer to a 50 cent piece in size to fit in the 3.5 jack and maybe a serial port? with some work, its possible.
Dan says
… 3.5mm (jack) < 4.1mm (thickness of device)… it totally fits. And the current iPod Shuffle uses the headphone jack for data and power so… problemo solved !
odin says
actually i think if you just use a cellphone style jack (the tiny ones) and include an adapter in the package you may pull it off, oleds etc would help too. buttons should protrude a lil to allow for space for other stuff (in a bubble wrap kinda way) flash is a given. i think this is actually somewhat possible.
rocky says
Well folks, can anyone else see the thickness dimensioned on the picture ..4.1mm. I think that should say enough for pals here shouting about fitting a 3.5mm jack.
Colin says
Stop copying “copyright” products, and come up with your OWN products.
The iPod is perfectly fine. Your design will just degrade it.
