The Air Tube Earphones are fitted with a pressure sensor in the earbuds. This helps the earphones instinctively understand if the user is still wearing his earphones or has removed them. The logic is that if you have removed the earphones, it means you are no longer listening to your music player….as a result the earphones automatically power-off your music player till you pop in the earbuds once again.
This intuitive action not only saves your player’s power for you, it also makes it easy for you to manage the device incase you have slipped it into you pocket or bag.
Clever!
Designers: Sunmi Hwang, Hyunjoo-Lee & Jiwon-Seok
It’s a nifty idea, but the ergonomics of the ear cushion are hard enough to get right without worrying about a super sensitive, air tight pressure switch. This would be easily damaged. The designer might achieve a similar function using a a heat sensor.
@ Nathan: Good point, although perhaps it could work using memory foam instead of air.
haha WTF !!! how to fit those monsters into ear ??
They seem to be quite handy, considering you don’t have to delve into your bag to turn off the music player. But as Nathan said, they also look quite breakable.
The light sensor would work better here
I love it!
I would love this, but it does look very fragile.
Light sensors would probably more fitting.
