Space Table

The Volna table, by Turkish design studio Nuvist, is a sculptural and artistic piece that looks like something straight out of The Jetsons. Soft curves and fluid movement are captured in unbroken, continuous form that will accent the most modern of offices.

Ok, just a few things. The fluid lines look lovely and I’m liking that it’s all one liquified object. Bit of an odd choice of colour, a range of colours shown would have been nice. No one has that much room in their house for a desk so this is basically for millionaires. And it’s not that practical really. There’s a computer on the desk but it’s not hooked up, where are the wires and the plug exactly? That computer is never going to work!!! They’ve conveniently left out things that normal desks have, computer wires, phone wires, papers, clutter. Desks are working environments, they can look nice but still need to have space for things to have a permanent place. The thing is huge yet looks like it could only hold a few objects before they all rolled off. And I would assume the base it heavily weighted so no one who thinks sitting on the thin end is a good idea tips the whole thing over.

It’s a lovely fluid design, but about as ergonomic as using my bed for a dinner table.

  • Oh really awesome the design is.Actually I can’t believe that how a table can be beautiful like this.I am impressed.Like to have this typed tables in my home.

    Looks beautiful!

Unfortunately, something like this is not practical…

I want a beautifully designed desk, that not only has the “wow-factor” when you first look at it, but when you start using it as well.

Agreed, visual interest is all relative. This is interesting because we haven’t seen a desk made entirely of curves, for a very good reason.

This is form without function; sculpture, not design. But seriously, become an artist, leave the functionality to more pragmatic minds, and I mean that in the best way.

There’s a saying amongst industrial designers and engineers everyone’s heard before, “Form follows Function”. It’s never the other away around for very good reason.

The design is bold (curves and color) but as many have already said, so impractical. It would still be fascinating to see a video of this thing being made. That’s the engineer in me talking.
