Dear Alan,
Apple will love you for your Gaming Pod concept and gamers like me who can’t live without the iPhone for this very reason, will worship you. I hope you can refine it enough to make it a CKIE project. It looks fit enough to protect the device and work in sync with it. I look forward to enhancing my racing-game experience using this sexy contraption. Loads of love, YD.

Good concept !! but how to use to control button?
Nice idea, will not work as shown

This "2 part" system will require a conection between the 2 parts. The connection between the Iphone and control will be through the standard conector, at the bottom. The part with control button will have to connect with the bottom part through at least 8 "channels" for the buttons, plus some other to headphone, etc.

Lovely idea, however (and I realize this will not go down well) it is more suited for the open android platform for early development. A few notes i would make, add a start and select button and a pair of shoulder buttons. Also if this were made as a three piece kit (with a center case, to which the two sides connect. It would be more portable; the two side pieces could be designed to connect together with no middle space, and maybe attach onto the back of the central piece, or simply be carried in addition. Maybe an option for a full joystick. And later a full model with two joysticks, and a d-pad (A much better option than the slide-out pad of the xperia play, as would allow you to remove it when not desired).

Oh, p.s. is there an in built battery, or is this (including the extra speakers) all run off the phone battery (high demand)?

Genius. Must have.

Sadly, Apple signs off on all devices that use their proprietary iconnector, and every one of these designs has been rejected. They specifically do not want a way for a user to add buttons to their device. ____Which is sad, because this is awesome.

Thanks for so much feedback, much appreciated.
This concept came out of frustration with the controls of the standard touchscreen controls. Agree there are alot more things to work on with this concept, when i get some free time i shall complete this project!

Something like this already exists, with better controls too. Also, it works on multiple phones.
iControlPad http://icontrolpad.com/
Though I think having the controls on the sides of phone rather than under is better.

Very clever – something like this could open up new competition for things like Nintendo's handhelds, especially if it were applied to Windows Phone 7 devices for their XBOX Live support.

This would make iphone fighting games waaaaay easier. This I gotta have.
I would rather have a portable bluetooth controller to be used with a DLNA capable android device.
