Every little step towards saving energy is a good thing; and thus we have the Ring Socket. The design is based on how a timer works. Set the ring for an hour, two-hours, more-hours; and at the end of it, the power supply shuts off. A thoughtful design but I guess suitable only for single sockets; as a long strip it would look too comical!
