Loop is a minimal & playful expression of a modern wall hook that wins on many levels! The loop VS hook design is highly functional for hanging your fav things. The simplistic construction consists of just one thin sheet of metal or polypropylene, a square wooden body, & two screws, making it flat-pack ready & easy to ship. Assembled like a 3D puzzle, it gets the user in the creation process before being mounted on the wall. In a variety of unique colors, including gold, turquoise, copper, & more, it’s a functional, easy way to spruce up your entryway!

The beauty of this table lamp lies in the exposure of its essential components. The stripped-down design is composed of a soldering board serving as a base, woven copper wiring that gives it malleability to stay upright, and E-10 light holders in a beautiful formation of eight. Artistically industrial, it almost looks accidental but is much too cool to be anything but intentional!

Located between two major bridges at the Rhine Carée, a significant public urban space of Cologne, the RheinRing represents the new center & links the two halves of the city. The circular construction serves as a pedestrian walkway directly accessible from the historical city center on the west, the Rhine Boulevard on the opposite side, as well as the flanking Rhine bridges. Situated over this landmark river, the ring allows for an innovative experience as an urban space in the inner city, frequented by pedestrians and cyclists.

Though their climates may differ, most areas of the world experience some form of seasonal change. The Peaked Hat Lighting Shade is inspired by the way our clothing/fashion changes between these seasons and offers a similar idea for interior spaces. Ranging from flowery prints for spring to warm felt material for winter, the light shades use a simple zipper and are easily interchangeable depending on the time of year!
The U-Bubble is a refrigerator that can be suspended in air and is inspired by the soap bubbles that we love so much. The Oblio faucet is entirely different than any you’ve seen, yet just as intuitive to use! Its fluid form mimics that of liquid, reducing visual weight with its compact dimensions. Though complex in appearance, its striking aesthetic is balanced by straightforward functionality. Ideal for dual sinks, the system consists of not one, but two hoses for distinct uses: aPVC section for precision rinsing and a rigid steel section for a stable flow. At the center is a single multidirectional block that controls both pressure & temp of both sides independently.

We love compiling lists because they bring upon elements of reflection and contemplation. For example, to create this list of Top 20 Best of Best Winners for 2014 from the Red Dot Awards: Product Design list, we had to factor in the YD audience, our experience with Good Design and resonance of what YD stands for. In short, it has to be the perfect marriage between YD’s pick and audience expectations. To see if we are on the same page…browse through the list below and let us know.
The Vito cycling system dares to be different! As much of an art piece as it is a fitness machine, its unique shape is unlike any other. Complete with an epicycloid transmission system (fancy words for rotational gearing), responsive LED performance lighting as well as mobile/tablet integration, it aims to encourage regular exercise. The longer it’s gone unused, the brighter its red LEDs glow. With its retractable saddle and handlebars, it can be easily tucked away or left out as a sculptural design element in your gym or other workout space.
