We all know CFC and HFC’s damage the ozone layer, and it’s only a matter of time when HFC’s will be banned just like CFC’s were in 1996. But what our freezers? There’s been much debate regarding passive eco cooling and thermoelectric cooling – now Oceania, designed by Tez Patel brings both technologies together in his eco fridge design.

Electrolux introduced today a new concept in oven design that they say will revolutionize the way we cook our meat. Taking a design cue from BMW’s iDrive and Apple’s iPhone one-button-to-rule-them-all page of industrial design. The “Inspiro” is the “first oven that automatically determines the right way to cook a dish to consistently achieve the desired result.”

Sometimes menial domestic tasks can be so boring for us afflicted with short attention spans. From doing the dishes, to cleaning out the refrigerator off all that rotting take-out, these tasks are not difficult to accomplish, just boring as sin to do. It was that need to liven up these chores that inspired the “Tian Chi” Chinese Washing Machine by Carlo Casagrande & Yu Wenhou Ben for CANDY Group and BIC LaFucina.

People who aren’t familiar with power drills may now have a chance to give it a go, provided they’re not embarrassed to be seen using a training wheel-like device called the SmartGuide. The first common mistake newbies make is not enough pressure thus leaving the drill but to wander all over before hitting its mark. The SmartGuide makes use of two interset rings that collapse in on each other - keeping your drill bit straight and on the narrow.

My my, these Korean designers just never run out of ideas. The latest is a Water Tree. Hear us out. Imagine a pendent lamp over your dining room table. Now imagine if that lamp had fruit. Imagine if that fruit held water. And while we’re at it lets say that water is filtered. That’s the Water Tree concept.

Measuring cup designs have changed throughout the years from the old metal design style to a more modern design. However, the newer designs have always been on the cool side of design, but far from being reliable. A New York design company, Pollen Design, has created a newer version of the measuring cup called NuScup. NuScup, is an adjustable measuring scoop that comes with a co-molded seal.

Flexible Distance is a top loading washing machine developed for Ye Xiao Dong as winners of the “Lavatrice Cinese Made In Milan” competition. The emphasis? Pure style. The idea is this machine is so beautiful, it can be placed anywhere in the home; even as a center piece. But how can a washing machine be this mobile? By caster wheels of course. However beauty is only skin deep. The real innovation here is the interface.

Nothing gets your morning going like a cup of joe and a piece of toast slathered in your favorite spread. Of course, it can also be the time of day when things are hectic to start. Kids running around, people in and out, everyone trying to remind everyone else about the super important soccer meet after school. Next time, put it on toast.
