It’s not the first time you heard us warn you about the repercussions of sitting on the computer for too long. Stiff back, sore wrists, numb legs….the list is endless! Looks to me that we all need a YoYo Mouse! This cute concept forces you to get up and do some Yo-Yo tricks to re-energize it because the battery drains out fast! Works best for me be, given that my wireless mouse runs out of battery ever so often!

Our favorite design studio Art lebedev is back with an update to their Optimus range of keyboards. This time around we have the Optimus Populyaris & Optimus Mini Six. While the Populyaris is a compact keyboard that configures with very many options (like English, Russian, Photoshop etc.), the mini six is an auxiliary device with six customizable keys that can be assigned any function, including displaying information related or non-related to the current program in use. Mini Six is perfect as a Tools panel, remote control, or an indicator with static or animated graphics!

All said and done, printers are a nuisance on the desk! They take up too much space and hold elegance to ransom with their unruly wires. The ‘I’m Hanging Printer’ is the proposed solution by designer Marc JuHyun Cha. In his words, “this looks like an art object when it hangs on the wall. It doesn’t look like some ugly machine. It makes your work place more organized.” I rest my case.

Adapta is an ergonomically designed mouse, based on the feedback obtained from orthopedic doctors and user research. This grip-shaped joystick-esque design promises to ease the stress on your wrists and forearm caused due to prolong use. I spend a good amount of time on the computer and use a Magic Mouse, the only stress I feel is the urge to crack my knuckles every now and then. Eventually the only way to beat any kind of medical complications arising from computer usage, is to moderate our time and do regular exercises.

The refreshed Mac mini may be making the rounds for slimmest and sexiest desktop computer but if an aluminum slab isn’t your thing, try this – the Slim PC. It’s a little robust looking, almost like a car stereo unit. The front face is capped with a piece of solid wood but the real wig snatching news is the iPhone dock. In an attempt to unite the two computing platforms, they compliment each other nicely – the halo effect.

As you can see that the Keyboard “ABC” has a pretty glossy finish and looks like a total glam-doll! Let’s just dive into the USP; it sports a complete touch surface and can be configured to any language with customized keys. What’s really cool is that you can change the keyboard color at whim and it works well for the left-handers too. It seems to be an LCD screen for the keyboard, with built-in memory for storing files. Now that is a good feature to have. My only two grouse: saving the board from fingerprints and if it can have the Apple keyboard-esque tilt.

I have two printers at home and not one of them as smart as this Humble Home Printer by Tom Peach. For eons printers have got the second-class treatment as computer peripherals; at the most they get jazzed up with colors or integrate some new tech feature. Design-wise they remain boxy as ever! Humble is a refreshing change and given the detailed plans, I’m sure it will be a practical home option.

The Sunflower Monitor is one of those concepts I try to view with an objective eye. At first glance, the design seems narrowly different from a very well known form factor but behind the facade are very unique applications. The monitor has 4 sensors that track the sun to generate power. It has a mini-os called Sunflower OS to make syncing with portable devices a simple affair. Of course you can use it like a traditional monitor except this one has a joint design that enables panning in almost any direction from just the slight push of a finger.

The design team at Hekseskudd re-envisions the classic gentleman’s tray as not just a convenient container for loose change and keys, but one that also caters to the modern user by providing a place to recharge and house electronics like the iPhone and Apple keyboard. 3 configurations of varying size, capacity, and functionality are available in a number of handsome wood finishes for a custom made feel that compliments the heritage of the classic product.

Document Extractor – Combi Monitor is a screen that doubles up as a printer as well. Why? Because you need precious space on your desk to put other stuff! You need to have cool tech devices that put stacks of printer paper hidden away from view! You need to boast of uber cool monitors just cause you don’t own a 27” iMac! That’s why!

You’ve got your finger still on the steampunk world, that ever-so-pretty subculture embraced wholeheartedly by these friendly internets. YD’s posted their fair share of steampunk stuff, and that tradition of love for it continues right this very moment. The “Woodguy” contacted us and rung our ears off with his excellent new covers for iMacs. Covers? Why that’s madness, you say, only PC computers can have a new level of design on top, Apple computers are already perfect, aren’t they? No way, no way at all! What they need is more wood.

It’s tough keeping a track on futuristic iterations of computers, so backtracking into the forgotten era sometimes spring up surprises. This retro-steampunk gem is a customized work of art which uses lots of wood and a good measure of brass to get in the right effects. As the designers put it “These custom-made keyboards, framed monitors and computers are completely functional, but with a 19th century/ steampunk aesthetic.”

Forgive me for the overdose on Printer Designs, or rather re-design, but apparently current cartridges and toner ink is a major source of worry for our designing community. The evil existing ones are BAD for the environment; hence after Pencil I and Pencil II, it’s time to consider draining out the last drops out of a Ballpoint Pen and use it for printer ink. So let’s dissect the REENK…only request, keep the discussion to why you think this will work or why not.
