Encouragement Plug for Environmentalism
This is a plug for the world to become more environmentally friendly. It’s a plug you’d plug into the wall to access power, but not just that! No way, that’s too simple. This one lights up in a way that shows you the way, the truth, and the light! This “Insic Wall Socket” encourages you to use power only so long as you need it. This isn’t just a dormant tool, nay, this one’s encouraging you to be the green crusader you’ve always aspired to be.
No plug, no light. Plug with no working instrument – ability to check the standby energy. Energy with a working instrument – energy display and encouragement to use the minimum. Lovely!

the socket is not in your face level. usually it is hidden behind something or low level.
This would be a one time thing users might enjoy at first, but I don't see any reason people will check it once the "green hype" is over. and how much would this cost + installation? is it really "saving money" ?

"green hype"??? I would certainly hope it's more than hype, otherwise our grandkids are going be be living in massive piles of garbage and shit.

i think, you don't need to spend additional money. it seems very simple as well as cheap.

How much additional power is required to power the display? Environmentally friendly – probably not!

It's very costly and bad for the environment to make these electronic gadgets. Kinda cancels out.

There's already something like this but less designy, it's called a watt meter. You can plug it in any socket and still plug anything else in the socket (via the watt meter). Nope.

How do you save on electricity by making an outlet that uses more to power it's own display? This can only increase power consumption.

if you want a crude power indication all you need is to measure the product of voltage and current, and thats as complicated as this should get. no fancy light, no fancy screen. just a simple lcd mono-tone display would suffice, and even then i dont get how you would see it behind a desk or a sofa. many people forget to ask these things before rushing into design work. people treat design as a candy shop dream world where they can just make ideas work by making them look good. especially on yanko!
