A-Bike – Folding Bicycle by Daka Design
The A-bike is a revolutionary new folding bicycle that breaks new ground in the areas of weight, folded size and design. Weighing in at just 5.5 kg, this ultra-portable folding bicycle is the lightest in its class. By utilizing quick release clamps, fold and unfold only takes 10 seconds. Its key advantage is true portability. It can be easily carried on public transportation network, and its compact size allows for easy storage. The A-bike can attain normal speeds without having to pedal any faster than with an average large wheel bike. Another key selling point is the totally enclosed chain system. A commuter does not need to worry about dirty trouser cuffs when riding as all the greasy parts are concealed.

Obviously the guy who did this concept has no idea of fisics.
A bike with those small wheels would need an amazing speed to keep upright.
Its not the same like a skate cuz in a bike the centrum of gravity is much more raised.
So once again, noone would pedal fast enaugh for this conzept.

Numerous videos of people riding the A-bike quite well, exist on Youtube, The only problem i see is when someone rides uphill, the riders weight is shifted back because of the short top tube length, and the small seat. This in turn would cause a wheelie, but no problem with balancing the bike side to side.

There’s even knock-off of these things selling here in my country!

It looks like the pedals would bump the ground upon trying to cycle, making it impossible to pedal the thing and actually go anywhere.

Advantage:
- lightweight & small enough into a backpack
- Quick fold & unfold (unlike umbrella though)
- Detail design consideration (e.g. no belt drive & air filled tires)
Disadvantage:
- Smooth road only OR indoor usage (e.g. ground clearance & rolling resistance)
- Uncormfortable to ride over long distance
- Specific usage to ride location
- Flat roads only, no breaks? & gears (uphill & downhill struggle)
- Wobbly joints?
- Design like an umbrella, but cost like any other mid range bike.
Usable locations:
Warehouse & offices, sport stadiums, urban parks & footpaths and some airports (probably few more locations)
Conclusion:
A well considered design and it defy the traditional concept of cycling, but the market is very specific in relation to ride locations (personally I prefer the “IF Mode Pacific Cycles”.)

I have and A-Bike, payed just under 100EU for it and I have to stress out: this is the only TRULY foldable citybike solution, because of how small it gets. (Strida also seems nice but is slightly larger and heavier)
Sure there are a lot of very good foldable bikes, that ride a lot better than this grasshopper, but this is under 5kg and takes approx. as much space as two umbrellas (but more confortable to carry and more useful than those blasted things!)
If you’re thinking about moving around the city with buses, trams, subway as part of your journey, this is a lot better than bigger bikes because it’s so light and folds so fast.
Dahon and other 16 inch or 20inch and up foldables are great but not really portable. Too bulky, way too heavy, too complicated, fold slower. They’re good for visiting a distant city by train. (Which somewhat defeats the concept – you can get a full sized bike in special trains)

Hard to balance I would think.
