Origami Inspired Wingback

Either origami is in right now or I’ve just been noticing it more in product design lately. Usually I find it as an inspiration that focuses on the actually folding techniques (usually for space saving) versus the finished origami paper construction. The Oru Armchair is a breath of fresh air as it clearly takes inspiration from the latter which is clearly expressed in it’s abrupt angles and deliberate creases. In contrast with the sharp exterior, the core of the chair, the seat itself, is both cushy and relaxing.

It's a fun idea, but the result is not very attractive.

  • I have also been seeing a lot of chairs and product design that are inspired by origami and similar inspirations. It’s a great idea because the art itself has a very structural component so it works great and the design is really intriguing and appealing to the eye. Everyone always wanted to see the delicate origami pieces on a larger scale to check out the intricacies so this is really cool. Nicely done, thanks for the post!

That not a very original idea, infact it look very much like this one http://www.dailyicon.net/magazine/wp-content/uplo… eaven the leg of the chair is almost identical to this one the designer of that chair is Voitto Haapalainen and it's designed arround the 70´s that particular leg shape is hes signature shape in all of hes lounge chairs. So in my opinion this is just a slightly altered version of an already exiting char that the "designer" is trying to sell it as his own idea.
