Here’s a flip phone that could put the “cool” back into clamshells. When you receive an incoming call, the corner dog-ears up and if need be, opens up (book-style) using actuators like artificial muscles in its elastomeric cover. Awesome! Motorola StarTAC 2.o maybe?
Designers: Miyazawa Tetsu & Ichimura Shigenori
I don't think the actuators are needed, but this rubberish cover, with touch sensing is cool!

That’s a pretty smart idea. I agree that the actuaters are probably not all that necessary. Seems like the rubber portion needs more functionality to be justified though. What if there was a more extended set of buttons on the inside (so when it’s open like a book you have a bigger qwerty keyboard offscreen maybe) that becomes inactive when folded around to the back?
cool, but what if so much time of doubling it and undoubling it, it breaks?

I like that idea! It would be cool if the actual flip part was a case you could buy, instead of being built in. You could control it with an app.
