Orrefors Crystal Dumbbell by Alex Undall

The Crystal Dumbbell is an attempt to rejuvenate the way we look at fitness products and there place in our homes. Fitness is a multi billion dollar industry where more money is being spent on home fitness products than on video games every year. We pay a lot of money for these products, but there aesthetics seldom fit our overall interior style at home and we tend to stow them away. My goal was to make something beautiful and functional that you would be proud having on display in your home. The aim is to have the Dumbbell produced by a high end glass producer that would raise its status to the same level as other high end home interior decorations, thus adding value and giving the customer more then one reason to by a fitness product.

  • Body Beauty says:

They look nice but what if one falls. Below are some other thoughts on this innovation

  • Carl says:

weights are a vehicle that leads to fitness. who gives a f what it looks like. so your objective here is to have an item that you want to keep out rather than store? come to my house and see my coloured dumbells?

are you going to take this design ethos further and deisgn a glass hammer too to beautify the nailing process and leave a come hither item out in the form of a useless but good looking item?

  • Jig says:

I think the intentions behind the design is very worthwhile and charming, but i feel for production and marketing purposes the design will need to be more balanced between aesthetics and affordances.
