The canopy and all the hardware is enclosed in the handle. A knob on its face turns to unlock the inner mechanism. The knob slides down the umbrella, forcing the canopy arms out through the top of the shaft. The flexible plastic arms are bent as the exit the handle, pulling the canopy with it. When fully open, the knob is turned back to lock the umbrella open.

yep, sure does…..and the funny thing is that he won the award for that design in 2005. I designed that back in 2004 and sent it into an invention company, but just couldnt get a patent on it yet bc it costs money. WHAT A COINCIDENCE. After all of these years that we have had the same umbrella design, i think of a new one, send it in, dont get it patented, and the next year it’s on market…..
