For many of us in the creative fields, whether it be design, music, art, accounting, film or even dressing up like Pokémon for some brat’s birthday party, we have a person to thank for the inspiration and never-say-die attitude we sometimes take for granted. For those lucky enough to have or had a good relationship with our mothers, we here at Yanko Design wish you and yours a Happy Mother’s Day.

With a popular site like Yanko Design, we attract an extensive audience, which is predominately very receptive to our site and responsible with their conduct on it. Although we always welcome our readers with open arms, we do not endorse those who come with malicious intents.

As a number of people have noticed, our site was briefly compromised yesterday leaving our loyal readers without a functional site. Since then, we have restored the database from a nightly backup with virtually no loss of data.

This incident came at an unfortunate time when an earthquake had recently hit Japan, whipping out the internet backbone in certain parts of Tokyo, which multiplied the problems as it resulted in one of the site’s founders being unreachable.

We appreciate your patience as we have temporarily disabled a number of features on the site, while we investigate the matter and take action to ensure that it does not occur again.

The site is growing more quickly than we could have possibly imagined, reaching 1.7 million page views per month! We’re looking for a couple of design-loving writers to join our team! You don’t have to be a professional writer or even be a designer, but you must enjoy writing about design and be capable of expressing yourself in a clear, engaging way.

Happy New Year - I hope that you’re having a good one. I’ve got a day of shopping planned (Winter Sale starts today in Japan) - but wanted to leave something here on the blog for those of you with a little more time on your hands.

I thought I’d take this opportunity to reflect back on the year. This post contains some highlights for this blog and the top 10 design from the last 12 months of archives.

We have been receiving a vast amount of designer Christmas and Holiday cards from designers from all over in the past few weeks. We wanted to take a moment to show our appreciation to all of you for sharing with us your incredible and remarkable work. We are always so thankful to get a look at your talent and skills that go into creating your designs. We appreciate all that you do and for blessing the world with your talent.

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. It is a day to be thankful for all the beautiful things this life has given us. So we at Yanko Design want to do something a little different today; something outside of our regular postings.
