Bedroom in a box

Everything is more convenient when delivered in an all-inclusive box. the Bento Box, the Happy Meal by McDonalds, the iPhone, and now a bedroom. The “Casulo” by designers Marcel Krings and Sebastian Mühlhäuser is a neatly packed box with an entire bedroom suite ready to go. No tools needed and minor assembly required for this IKEA worthy design. The use of styrofoam packing materials has been completely eliminated making this (unofficially) a “Green” product by design. My knee-jerk reaction upon seeing this impressive packing job, had me imagining Wile E. Coyote ordering an entire bedroom from ACME in another misguided attempt to lure the Roadrunner into a trap.

it’s like the future is already here. Thin TVs, small computers, cell phones, and now: compact furniture.

Very nice… at least the whole concept.

This would also be great for people that keeps spare rooms for people who are visiting. You could use the room for something else… and then when vist comes, just use the box.

Absolutely brilliant for the modern nomads.

As always with these things, I suppose putting it back together is probably the harder bit… It is as if the laws of physics stop working. If you take apart an engine and then put it back together, inevitably you’ll end up with some extra parts. Same with this, once you’ve put it up and try to pack it again, there will be parts that won’t fit anywhere. :D

I love it anyway. :)

This is truly amazing! it would sell very well especially to students in rented accommodation. I agree with the comment by TH putting it back together i imagine is considerably difficult!!

Wow, can you imagine if universities started using stuff like this. Storage would be such a snap. It would also be an interesting way of weeding out people that couldn’t follow instructions to build it. Then again, people and Ikea furniture….

too bad you cant lift this box without a mini forklift (^ top photo) There better be some easy directions/methods to go along with it or it’ll be a nightmare to disassemble. Maybe the box needs wheels? I suspect mad hernias when trying to lift a bed, bookshelf, desk, dresser, and cabinets all at once. I’m strong but not that strong.
I like the concept though, looks like it can actually sell… so there’s that.

it’s really cool, but i’m sure no one can “fit all those things in a small box”, my neighbor says…even 6yrs boy knows it…

These would be very fresh products to the mainstream. It reminds me of my more youthful years when I would of had time I could afford to organizing furniture to become something else. You know, the sleepovers where you built forts out couches, chairs, bookcases and bedsheets that made you take the time to peice it together to become something else. That the first things that comes to mind.

With that in mind, although it would be fresh to mainstream, I think it is neat but very impractical being that you have to manually do it. Who wants to take the time to have to set up and breakdown a furniture set everytime you go in and out of the room.

I think that to put this concept over the top for mainstream the furniture contraptions should be made to be “automatic”. At the push of a button everything would break down and set back back up on its own without having manually do it.

That would be over the top super cool.

If you add industrial wheels to the bottom, the kind you can lock in place, perhaps the weight wouldn’t be too much of an issue if indeed it truly is an issue with the stryofoam board materials anyway.

This is a viable concept where physics is concerned actually. There would be limits to the weight of the objects being placed on the structures but this would be ideal for college students in dorms and as previous mentioned in another blog it would be ideal for a guest bedroom being used normally as something else.

Very cool.
