Combination Memory
The Collector USB Flash Drive is one awesome concept that I’d love to see on shelves. The idea is simple. A USB Stick accommodates small capacity memory cards. Custom configure the stick or simply keep expanding, just do your techie thing and be happy! What a great way to use all those smaller cards laying around the house. Not sure how it deals with partitioning unless there are some smarts built-in to deal with hot swapping.

i love this! and i would totaly buy it!
but i got one question, how do you do it with the memory cards? if you have a file of, say, 5,6 gb and take out one of the cards (to replace it with a larger gb card), wont the file be incomplete or what?
design looks great! and the cards would be a great replacement for the flash drive because those always seem to shrink when you take some thing on and off or something…

I assume it's similar to the dual microsd cards, it won't function anymore without the other card.

A very intelligent idea to use again old memory cards and is also a reader memory cards very practical.

I would love to see this as a design where each card is independent. So it would get rid of incomplete problems with files splitting. 3 8GB 'drives' would be quite amazing.

Can you buy it in Japan?
Bauski says
no, you cannot, it's a collection of renderings and drawings with some poorly translated explanations. Why does everybody ask for purchase of those things shown on Yanko? Isn't it obvious enough that these things do not exist most of the time? If you want to buy things go to amazon or to the Yanko Store!

It just a concept product , people said they want to buy it , maybe they just like this concept. Don't be so serious…

Intelligent idea, but usually I don't have so many cards.

it's better to go with higher capacity and smaller form factor than to compromise with a bundle of junk.

This is a fantastic idea! I hope the creator is able to bring their idea to life and get these to market
I would really love for this to exist.

I think the key, with this design, it's the code, How do you make that all this microSD's work as one? i've been thinking about this kind of design but with old USB's, a way to connect htem, and work as one.

This was actually my first thought in seeing it. You would have to set them up as a raid, or have some type of hardware controller in there to keep the data separate across the drives, as well as to properly address the space. The closest thing I've seen to having this ability is a Drobo, but there's no way you could fit all the controllers and firmware into a device that small…

Came here to say this. It's going to look considerably bigger with a raid controller built into it. Sadly, you can't just wire three SD cards together and make one big hard disk, it doesn't work like that.

and i gess the blue plastic means is USB 3.0

I would buy it if i saw one in one of my local stores. The only thing that would hold me back could be it the device becomes too expencive.

3 is definitely not enough, make it double like 6 and beyond..

I've had problems with back-up drives (I lost 600GB of backed-up files), and I've been wanting to switch to flash memory. This would be a good way to expand as necessary, and as the money became available for more micro SD cards. It probably wouldn't need to be expensive because it has no memory of its own.

Please Please Please MAKE THIS!! I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it weren't too expensive!! Email me if it becomes available!

I would pay more for a well-constructed, low-capacity drive than I would for a shabby high-capacity one any day.

Dealership is welcome.

Actually, if you were to program an FPGA right, you could make a make-shift RAID controller.
Besides, they aren’t nearly as large as you think they are.

What you could do to deal with the swap is plug it into the computer back it up wipe it and re install the data
khun says
I think it can be a good idea, but the fact is that is just a hub with SD ports in it. Every card you plug will be another disk drive. so you don’t have 1 6GB drive (in the example), you have 3 2GB drives. Each with its own space and mount point.
Vehicle wraps says
Cool idea, but it’d never work as a unified drive without reformatting all the SD cards anyway.

Beautiful flash drive, they should make this ASAP for the public. Would be an amazing flash drive to have.
Dorian says
Or it could be made as a sort of hub for the cards. That would be the best setup afterall, and with a bit of tweaking you could put even more into the setup. Perhaps a 6 slot even. It might require a bit of a thicker USB drive, but imagine having a good hub you can plug in up to 6 separate microSD cards for easy file conversion.
