Green Lantern channeled for bicycle security

If you equate cosmic superhero power with the right-now technology of Bluetooth, designer Hsu Wei-Che has the bike lock for you. Made specifically for short-term parking, this lock attaches to the spokes of your bicycle when you’re going to head into a convenience store (or whatever other short trip you’re on) and notifies you of movement via a fabulous green sensor ring. The power is yours!

Hsu Wei-Che wants to alleviate you of some of the stress that comes with worrying about your bike by making the process of locking it up not just easy, but entertaining as well. This product also works as a lamp when you’re not just using it for security, and the sensor ring you’ll be using will make you the belle of the ball at your local 7-11.

Great, you’ll be notified when your bike is stolen. By the time you get down there the bike and thief will be long gone. If you’re fast enough maybe you’ll see him/her riding away with it laughing at you.

This is no different than not having these alarm and parking it without locks. When you get down and find your bike missing you generally know when it happened (when you were off your bike doing your errand).

Personally, I would like to see a bike that, when ridden without a key will lock up the front wheel after reaching a certain speed (small enough not to cause severe damage but large enough to hurt). Built in and inaccessible GPS would be nice too.

  • Hahaha this idea is pretty cool. Probably too expensive and novelty for my taste. But who wouldn’t want that super power to know when your bike is being stolen.

Uh… Bluetooth only works up to 32 feet (like 11 meters)… if I’m only going that far, I most likely can still see the bike through the window.

Also, “The Power is Yours” is a Captain Planet quote, not Green Lantern. C’mon people, due diligence.
