Some Serious Packaging
You’ll never guess what’s inside that box. It’s some kind of miniature vault or something. Whatever’s inside must be really special. Hit the jump.
It’s packaging for a high end luxury watch. The hydraulic opening mechanism is inspired by the steam boat “SS Delphine”. The watch was created around the lore of the boat which is still active. The packaging works with hydraulic power, activated when the cover opens. Functional elements of the watch and SS Delphine can be found again on the packaging. All made of steel and plexiglass.

Luxury watches are one of the most expensive things money can buy, and deserve such a great box. If I had such a watch I would definitely keep it in something like this.

If it doesn't have an exploding mechanism if forced open, it is useless.

Now that is some quality packaging! Dread to think what the watch costs though if the packaging is so expensive.

A complicated watch is useless but celebrates the technique and the precision. Ochdesign questions "what should be the box to store such objects?" it could be a concrete block if the contrast container/content is researched, it could be a light diaphanous membrane or other concepts… Here the box is both the container and the scenography, (like ancient mechanic music boxes are). The sound is replaced by the hydraulic movement emphased by the colored water in the transparent pipes, an event in the process to take the watch in/out: the technique serving the poetry.
