Umbrella Dryer
Mumbai magically transforms itself into a green city during the three months of monsoons that we get. The magic does come at the cost of careless people with dripping wet umbrellas in malls, shopping arcades and indoor public places. What they don’t realize is that slippery wet floors can cause nasty falls. I’ve been a victim to one such fall, so I really know why we need something like the Swan Umbrella Dryer.
It may not be feasible to install such dryers outside every enclosed place, but select hotels, shops, malls etc can get it and offer the service. I’d prefer this to the disposable plastic covers that I’ve seen being used abroad, simply because we can do without the additional plastic burden.

This does seem like a good idea, especially for my city of Vancouver Canada, where it rains like 10 months a year (or so it seems). I have always had problems with wet umbrellas and bringing them into the office, after a while they start to smell bad too.

How would this work for umbrellas that fold up twice and become shorter?

Shouldn't this be called the “Swan Wet Umbrella Drip Collector Stand/ Swan flower watering can / Swan night light,” since that's what it really is? (There's no mention of any active drying going on…)
What if instead the umbrella was made of an ultra water-repellent material that simply couldn't trap water? (That's what my raincoat is made from.) What if floors were made more slip resistant? Surely not only umbrellas make the floor wet when it rains?
